New networking troubleshooting tool

Post by Azhrei »

Phergus put together this tool, called SysInfo, quite a few months ago. But as I couldn't digitally sign the JAR file I didn't have any way to add it to the site such that it would work out of the box. I've now learned how to overcome that obstacle. ;)

To all folks with networking problems coming here to look for a solution:

After you've completed the steps in the Networking FAQ and you still don't have a working server, then run the tool linked below. Copy and paste the results into a post in this forum. Be sure to put BBcode code blocks around the pasted data -- that will make it much easier for us to read it and hence, to help you solve the problem.

The SysInfo tool is available here as a Java WebStart. It is currently not available as a downloadable zip, but I'll get to that in the not too distant future.

Here's sample output from my MacBook Pro:

(Apple's latest Java framework has a bug that prevents UPNP routers from being found. That causes the last section to produce the wrong output on OS X 10.6.3.)
