Bugs? in menus and in background map

Post by rogue_ronin »

Brand new to Maptool. Basically new to DMing, although I did DM as a kid.

I look forward to using Maptool as I develop my campaign. At the moment, we're just pencil and paper.

I've been watching a lot of maptool tutorials, reading bug reports, and experimenting a bit.

I've noticed two problems, both pretty blocking for me.

1) Menu text is messed up if I change the theme. (I'm a huge fan of dark themes.)
Image (I have an image here, perhaps if I post more it will show up.)

a) I cannot tell what causes the problem; I have to randomly select at different points on the Themes menu and hope it resets after I restart by blindly picking a low point in the files menu.

b) With the dark theme I sometimes get dark text on dark backgrounds (in the menus; the menubar headers are the correct color, as is the shortcut text in the menu) This is somewhat readable, but really requires the hover-highlight to read. It isn't reliable; the dark theme will also do the whiteout menus once the menus go white from another theme selection.

c) most often I get no text on a white background (in the menus; the menubar is the correct color. Shortcut text is also gone.) I suppose it's possible that it is white-on-white.

d) I cannot figure the pattern of getting back to dark-text on a light-theme. I spent 10 minutes just now trying to find a pattern and I failed. My current impression is that it is either some sort of times-through-the-loop of swapping blindly and restarting, or the themes are just not being fully applied?

2) Importing a map image
a) I tried importing a map to the background layer and when I scroll to zoom, it disappears -- sometimes I get randomized pixels, sometimes I see the image briefly, but when I slow down I cannot find it again.
b) I just tried clicking on the map after I pause a zoom, and I can then see the image -- but if I scroll the wheel, it goes bonkers again.
c) If I right click, map disappears. if I left click, it reappears. Maddening. :)

Thank you for Maptool, if I can help with this, I will.

Aloha.

The problem with the dark theme has been fixed in the next release. Until then you'll have to use one of the others.

re: Graphics glitches - Go into Edit -> Preferences -> Startup and check the Disable Direct3d Pipel then restart MT. If that doesn't fix it, enable OpenGL Pipeline.

Thank you for responding!

Glad to hear about the dark theme fix. Will that solve the blank menu entries in the other themes?

Both of those settings were as you preferred, I don't have to change them. (Probably because I'm on Linux, and they were set properly from the beginning.)

Is there anything else I could do to help diagnose?

Here is an image of the blank menus.

Disabling OpenGL solved the glitching on the map, and it solved the menus going blank.

I can live with the dark-on-dark menu until the next version.

Thank you for the help! I never would have guessed to mess with that setting without your advice.

Aloha!

I made another Dark Theme that's a little better, imo.

Not familiar with Discord. Looks like someone had misused my email account.

I've gotten control of the discord account, but it keeps telling me I need to claim and register my email account before I can send messages, and when I try to it says that it's already registered. Am I doing something wrong?

Aloha.

EDIT: perhaps it was server slowness; finally worked, took about 15 minutes.

Definitely a more readable dark menu, thank you. Funny that yours has the same issue, hardcoded value?

Such a nice community, really kind of you.

I don't know the actual issue with the text, but apparently it's been fixed? in next release. I just took the existing Dark theme and tweaked a couple of colors. I mostly wanted to change the button padding because 12px is just ridiculous.
