Don't Scream if it's an old question . . . How do I point?
I've now run three game sessions using RPtools. We're actually playing face-to-face at the moment, but we're basically playing as if we were not in the same room. I have a laptop for every 1-2 players, and one for myself, and then a projector shooting a player view (from my own computer, running a second instance of the game) at the wall so the players can have a shared point of reference.
There's a lot we have not incorporated yet -- chat and macros, for one thing -- which we don't really need yet (I am planning to experiment with playing remotely, so I'm sure I'll be playing with those later.
BUT . . . the one thing I find myself wanting to do more and more is to point to a particular token and say "this guy" -- and the players also need the same functionality, so they can tell me which guy THEY are planning to attack, etc.
Is there a quick and easy way to do this that I'm missing? I had thought about creating an object or token, owned by everyone, that they can just move around as pointer, but that seems like a lot of overhead for a simple pointer.
If I'm not missing some totally easy bit of functionality, what are folks doing to draw attention to a specific point?

$3 laser pointer, at any gas station. ^_^

Hold down the space bar and you get a nice little arrow that follows your mouse with the player who owns the arrows name so you can point to your hearts content.

This feature works only when you're on the token layer with the pointer tool. The measurement tool or any other layers or tools do not have this capability.
Personally, the space bar should ALWAYS put up an arrow.

Well, if you do that, how will you create waypoints while moving?
For my own games (4e) players don't switch off the token layer -- the measurement tool is handy, but not a big deal, and what they've taken to doing is just picking up their token as if they were going to move to the target to check the range. It's a bit messy, but it gets the job done.
IMO, the ideal would be for players to never have to change layers -- that just adds a layer of complexity that they don't need to deal with. Is there any reason why the rangefinder tool's functionality couldn't be accessed on the token layer with an alt-click and drag or something like that?

Watched all the tutorials and never saw that trick.
darn.
I no longer believe that MapTools is usuable or intended just for programmers. MapTools is for everyone.

What'll really blow your mind is what happens when you hold SHIFT or CTRL when you push SPACE

I have a dream to someday make those show up automatically whenever a token "speaks" or "emotes"Cweord wrote:Ok, I knew about the arrow, those other two are cool.

What would be seriously cool, is integrated voice chat, with one of those automatically comming up when that person spoke . . . . .
