Gihren's Mumblings

Post by Sabin Stargem »

Wandering around the markets of Tyr, Gihren sought out various items useful in the capture of an overly large cat. While browsing, he also sought out pawn shops and armor merchants. He possessed a suit of leather armor that he no longer wished to own, because he had no desire to keep it. Given to him during his formative years, the beaten and battered armor was still rather sturdy - but he has long since surpassed the need for armor like that. His skin was just as tough, and the constricting armor held him back.

Throughout his shopping expedition, he mulled over his new companions. The cold and dead Setia, Krovan the Brutal, Xanaph the Large, and Farax the Cleaver. He wasn't sure if their cooperative would last, but it would be nice, if only for the bits involved. Though that isn't to say that he was purely motivated by money. Rather, he enjoyed milking a situation for all that it was worth, be it knowledge, experiences, wealth, or items.

(I would like to sell off my leather armor. Also, how much would a waterskin, bedroll, and other such things cost? The money system is causing me no end of confusion when looking at the prices in the Builder.)

Having wandered away from one shopping district to another, Gihren came across a booth. Within it, the merchant was selling pictures and statuettes. The paintings themselves were works meant for the wealthy, while the statues were valued by the masses. This was because paintings often withered and decayed when exposed to the arid environment. The merchant must be fairly well off, because his paintings were protected by glass and were kept in the dark. However, these paintings were merely lower quality, since the truly goods ones were kept in an underground warehouse to be safe from the elements.

Seeing that the paintings were clearly outside of his price range, Gihren took to the statues. Glancing them over, he saw many statues that appealed to him. Ranging from eyed pyramids to representations of love, he finally decided to move on. However, an object caught his eye, it being a smooth, black stone. Attached to a necklace by a stonework cap, he could see a tinge of red on the stone's surface. He soon acquired the stone, and left with a new ornament.

Gihren was always fond of blacks, reds, and golds. This was because he had at one time lived in a quarry town, working his way into the surface of the world. To look around, was to see these three colors, layered around him like comforting bedsheets and blankets. Particularly fond of cool places, Gihren enjoyed working in the depths of the quarry because it was damp and cold. The sun may have stripped the surface of such things, but it didn't possess mastery over the world's depths.

Looking around, he spied several stalls, most of them containing goods essential to surviving inside and outside of the walls of Tyr. Be it armor, weapons, food, or something else, it was probably here. Looking over the merchants and their goods, he sought out someone who would be interested in his leather armor. He didn't have much in the way of money on him, but if he was going to venture past the walls, he ought to pick up some supplies. Eyes roving, he spied something he was rather fond of - a stall selling jerky. Dried and flavored meat that wouldn't go bad, it was ideal for long travels and people who wanted a tasty meal. Unfortunately, most jerky was far too expensive for someone like him.

Jerky was often purchased by monster hunters and merchants. They had the money, and there was no questioning the usefulness of food that wouldn't go bad. Forcing himself to avert his eyes and to shake his head, he convinced himself that the allure wasn't worth it, though his stomach told him otherwise. Not far from where he was, something caught his eye, it seemed to be something worth checking out. Once again, his belly disagreed with this assessment.

*Your turn. :)
