Antlion Aftermath

Post by Sabin Stargem »

[Taking some creative license]

After the long and difficult battle with an antlion, the organs and raw materials that it held was soon collected by the party. However, they also had to tend to their wounded, Xanaph, which proved difficult because a sandstorm soon approached after they finished gutting the antlion's bounty. They were forced to flee to an natural cavern that Krovan had passed when traveling to the antlion's lair. Now sheltered within it, they recuperated from their wounds and ills from traveling. However, the cavern was uncharted, and the storm was raging.

Things being as they were, Gihren wandered into the depths of the cavern. He knew it was dangerous to explore random holes in the earth, but the same will that drove him to sate his curiosity was also the same thing that drove his clan to leashing him, so he wouldn't wander after strange things as an child. To say the least, the cool and slightly wet cavern was a joy to him. His clan didn't care much for him, since he was far too nosy for his own good, and that he was overly large for a human. So much in fact, that the other children and his clan felt he was different. Not that he particularly cared, he didn't like them anyway. He much preferred choosing his own company. Unfortunately, the need for money had forced him to join with a group of strangers, which left him feeling uneasy.

(Please add in your stories and desires in this thread. Do we head straight back to Tyr, or do more things in the desert? Is there any campfire roleplay to be done? Anything extra that was gotten from the antlion?)

Krovan Sat at the entrance to the cave hearing the raw primal power of the sand cleansing the face of Athas, and felt at ease. The respite from the crowded stinking city and it's intricate politics and intrigues was welcome, but he felt different somehow...changed.

He's never been exposed to anything like he had over the last few weeks, before it had been a hundred caves like this, loping across the wastes and finding ways to survive. He began to realize he had indeed been little more than an animal, no more special than the gutted and quartered antlion they'd just killed.

These members of his pack had changed him, the city had changed him. The was a larger cause here, something better than a life eating carrion, burrowing in sand and constant hunger. He looked pensively at his scared brown hands, and slowly lifted them out into the storm. He felt in tune with the pulse of it, it's violence was impassive, it scoured clean the slate of the world and when it ebbed in a few days time the world outside would be raw, and fresh again.

He drew in the storm's energy, felt it fill his hunched form and slowly began the process of examining how it could be used, how this natural fury could show him a better way, perhaps it was time to shed his animal skin...to clean his own slate.

He lay back, listening to his pack converse, and smiled thinking of the panther they had killed. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

As the storm raged outside Gihren began to nod off, the days exertions finally taking their toll. He went to the back of the cave and lay his head down in the darkness. He was immediately surprised to discover that his head was touching wood, not the stone floor of the cavern as he expected.

Closer inspection revealed a large hatch in the ground...

Staring at it, he quickly inspected it for markings or anything else that would make it more than a trapdoor. If there was anything noteworthy about it, aside from the coincidence of finding it, then those details have eluded him. He had to come to an quick decision about how to approach the situation, which was summed up as this: Alert the party and bring it along, or leave them behind in search of glory?

It was decided: He got up, and yelled "Hey, I found something! Anyone got a torch?"
