House Rules

Post by DDK »

1) Inherent Bonus with Magical Items.

Using the Inherent Bonus sub-system to eliminate magical plusses from magical items instead of eliminating magical items altogether.

Essentially you gain magical items for their properties and additional powers rather than their magical plusses to defences, attacks and damage.

Items retain their level-based benefits, so descriptions like, “Per plus of the item” still work based on the level of the item. The same with critical damage bonus dice.

2) Math Fixes & Free Feats.

Every character gains the following feats at the following levels for free through the House Rules option in the Character Builder. These feats are not 'extra slots' that can be retrained for other feats.

1st-level: Melee Training (your choice).

5th-level: Versatile Expertise, and one of the following out of Great Fortitude, Lightning Reflexes or Iron Will.

11th-level: Paragon Defenses.

21st-level: Robust Defenses.

3) Item Attuning & Wish-Lists.

Instead of using wish-lists, what I will be doing is giving treasure out based almost wholly on what the enemy would most likely have in their possession. There will be other items given out based purely on luck and happenstance, and whatever whim strikes me, but for the most part I will be using the following attunement system.

If an item is lost to a creature by being defeated, or if it is out of the possession of the creature for more than 24 hours, the item loses it’s magical properties and powers. It still remains a magical item of the same level and rarity type. Any creature claiming possession of the item can attune themselves to it over a 24 hour period. After this 24 hour period, the item will manifest the powers and properties that the owner wishes (within the rules for magical items, ie. choose a magical item suitable to the item being tuned).

Example: the party defeats a warlock. The warlock wielded a pact blade dagger against them. A pact blade is a level 3 uncommon item that has light blade as a requirement. One of the characters claims the item and after 24 hours he can turn it into any light blade, level 3, uncommon item of his choosing.

To some degree this system requires a level of maturity on the part of the player. An expectation that 'loop-holes' won't be abused just because they exist, will be in play.
