Around a 100 years or so ago there was a fierce army whose sole purpose (deemed by their enemies) was to wreak nothing but destruction across the lands. They were led by a vicious general named Aeralon.... who was well known for his lack of mercy and the utter destruction that his army would bring. However at some point in time while marching into towards the city of Four Winds General Aeralon and much of his army seemed to just disappear. With this the people of the country were able to rebuild and live with a semblance of peace for about 50 years.

Then one night approximately 50 years ago something happened to this day is still spoken of and to this day still gives nightmares to those who were there to witness it. It was a starry night and a full moon, and many were out to see the meteor shower that was said to happen once every 50 years. The meteor show went as predicted but something unexpected happened. As the people watched they noticed that the meteors fell for far to long... and almost immediately the scholars realized that it was no longer meteors going by that were being seen but it seemed that the stars were literally falling. The people watched in horror as in a quick procession all the stars fell down until it was only the moon that remained. However, even that was not to last as it then seemed to the onlookers that the moon was beginning to tint into a reddish color.... and eventually it seemed that the moon began moving away from the earth until it was no longer visible.

The havok that the events wreaked on the world were catastrophic, as without the moon the tides were soon out of control. This led to much of the world being flooded, leaving only a mere portion of the world remaining above water resulting in massive losses of life. The damage though, did not seem to pertain to only the physical as it was soon figured the moon was a guardway of sorts, preventing the demons, gods, and everything in between from influencing and wreaking havoc on the world. With the moon gone for around 20 years stories of demons razing cities, Gods declaring parts of the world their domain, and millions of people outright vanishing were not uncommon. However fortunately it seems that our world was able to rebound and the realms were once again separate albeit outerrealmly creatures are still able to influence our world to degrees.

The world has adapted to the new situation though, with cities becoming pretty much states having their own private militia and mages and clerics to help ward off possible attacks. Villages too tend to have a few people guarding them though they tend to if possible become parts of cities with lords strong enough to defend them or hope that they will survive with a combination of not being noticed/wards holding against threats. There are rumors of tribes of various races surviving in the wild but no-one has lived long enough to verify this. Its a world where travelers often travel in large groups capable of defending themselves so that their supplies will make it to the next town and that being attacked by bandits is considered a best case scenario.

Some racial info

Changelings- not much is known about changelings, it is rumoured that they first appeared in the world when the moon vanished. Though since they are more often than not are perfectly willing to live in piece/not kill people they are widely accepted.

Devas- Again first appeared when the moon vanished. They are said to be half-gods... being born of one mortal parent and one parent who was a god. They tend to reincarnate when they die with few memories of their past life. While a majority of them were born recently there are a few who have lived for centuries among the other races. Tend to be very rare.

Dragonborn- There are conflicting stories about them. Some say they are similar to Devas in that one of the parents was a dragon, while others say they are the reincarnation of kingdoms that are now underwater and that Bahamut had taken mercy on the most honorable and recreated them in his image.

Dwarves- For the most part have remained untouched. Due to generally living in mountains quite a few were able to escape the damage that the world flooding presented. Though they have a problem in that other races see their cities as a safe haven and have at times overthrown their cities and kicked them out. They have also had to deal with dragons who seek to make the dwarve's homes their own. The Dwarves are distrusting of almost every other race save the Minotaurs and Goliaths with whom they share the cities and protect each other from harm.

Genasi- Humanoid creatures who when the borders first broke down were struck by a wave of energy from the elemental chaos. This gave them powers over the elements. However those who are stuck a second time or were struck by it for prolonged periods became Darker versions of the genasi and are widely regarded as being generally insane.

Goliath- Tend to be nomads in the outskirts of Dwarven cities in which they tend to trade with quite often (often trading hunted animals and found items for dwarven weapons and armors). They tend to explore the mountains and valleys around the Dwarven cities but never tend to stray to far from the cities.

Minotaurs- Have a caste system that breaks down into 4 different groups. 1) The upper class who tend to live in the dwarven cities with the Dwarves and are the leaders of the minotaurs. The second class being the ones who live in the outskirts of the cities and fight alongside the dwarven defenders. The third class tend to live outside and below the dwarven cities and sole purpose is to manage the 4th class... the forsaken. The forsaken are Minotaurs who have been reduced into their most animalistic state and as a result the families of those who have become forsaken is to essentially imprison them within the lower parts of the dwarven cities and to protect both the cities from them and the forsaken from the cities. In rank those who guard the forsaken are often the most respected for the difficulty in their job while the 2nd class tend to have the most honor.

Overall Continents and Sea masses
The Main Land- A strip of land that consists of a majority of the land that remains of the world. The parts remaining being the parts that were submerged completely under water.

The Kingdom of Aeralthun- was originally a part of the main lands and one of the main powers of the world but the topographical effects of the loss of the moon resulted in it becoming separated and reduced to nothing but an a fairly large island off the coast of the main land.

Dragon Isles- As the name states it is a group of islands settled mostly by Dragons. There are other races living there but they tend to try to not be noticed by the Dragons and stay as far away from the treasure as possible. While many of the dragons are sentient and are impartial to humanity there are primal ones that have taken to flying off into the mainlands and wreaking havoc.

The Lost Lands- Originally was a separate country to the north though not much is known about it or what remains. It is rumored that this is the place where General Aeralon and his armies marched from. Every now and then people manage to make their way across the ocean to the mainlands state that a dictatorship has since been formed and that they apparently face constant threats from the east. Despite that quite a few sailors make their way from the Kingdom and Main

The Dark Sea- In the world many places have earned their title... the dark sea being one of them. At first it is perfectly fine but as many doomed sailors soon discovered the further in you go the darker it becomes. Most turn back after experiencing near pitch black but others attempt to brave it. None of those others have ever returned.

The Dead Sea- another place that has apparently earned its title as rumors have said that boats that have passed through have been attacked and sunken by swarms of undead and dragged to the bottom of the ocean. Many boats refuse to even pass through this way and instead go through the passing.

The Lost Sea- A place that everyone knows the location of and refers moreso to what was there than what is there now. It was originally the center of the world with several robust cities but once the moon vanished so did these cities in the resulting chaos. Now adventurers try their luck at reaching these cities so that they can take all that was left behind.

Cities

New Sovereignty- not much is known about the city except from what is told by the people who escape it. It is a strict dictatorship that strictly monitors everything and anything that passes through the city with the best of the best being taken to The King. Inside the kingdom there is a strict curfew and even stricter laws in which disobedience is met with either an execution or enslavement. Despite that the kingdom is quite wealthy and has an abudnance of gems and gold in its bordering mountains of which many people from the mainland and even Aeralthun desire to trade for.

The Passing- Is the safest route to New Sovereignty being a city with a canel running straight through the middle of it. The city has long since been deserted though passerbys have claimed that while in the city they feel like they are constantly being watched resulting in a custom of respecting and even helping upkeep the city to appease whomever it is watching. As of the last few years New Sovereignty has been taking over parts of the city and the surrounding area.

Silverport- The closest port to The Lost Lands resulting in it being the city which all the wealth passes through. There have been rumors of slaves being traded as well but the rumors are mostly dismissed as The Kingdom firmly disallows slave trade and to participate in such is a one way ticket to execution.

Magmordner- One of the few dwarven cities and one of the most fervent allies of Aeralthun having been the allies and close friends of all the kings for the past 200 years. Due to the relationship they are a part of the kingdom with their nobles being equal to Aeralthun nobles and their leader being only below King Aeralthun in class. Their relationship has also led to a symbiotic relationship with the rest of the kingdom providing them with food and goods for all over and the Dwarfs working essentially solely in art or weapon making.

Aeralthun City- The capital city of the kingdom and the home of the current king, King Damascus Aeralthun the 3rd. A separation from the mainlands combined with the amount of troops and the fact that the Kingdom as a whole works together has led to this being the safest area in the whole world (that however isn't really saying much). Many people flock to the city and this has resulted in the rise of bandits in the island. The King is a fairly just if not pigheaded king. He realizes that his father and grandfather were content to just sit around and stay in safety while his previous ancestors led a whole kingdom and are what heroic tales are made up. Damascus (as he has his servants and allies call him) seeks to reclaim his rightful kingdom and unite the lands once more. Though this proves to be a difficult goal to do from far away. The King has an alliance going with the leaders of Marbleshore giving them protection and him a way to extend his powers to the mainland.

Havenfield- It is a city that was founded in the long stretch between Marbelshore and Fourwinds/Summerpoint beach as at first a place for weary travelers to rest and as a peaceful place for settlers from other lands to settle. It has far exceeded its expectations in both and almost all caravans and travellers stop in the city before continuing their respective journeys. There is a large number of mages as well as many mercenaries and adventurers who grew sick of travelling resulting in it ironically being one of the most military able cities in the mainland.

Dragon Shore- The city closest to the Dragon Isles, the people of this city have made a pact with the dragons essentially trading their free will for safety. As such the Dragons view the citizens as part of their treasure horde and are quite protective. However once you make this pact you nor your descendants may ever leave. This is the safest city in the mainland and is widely regarded as being part of the Dragon Isles due to the sheer number of sentient dragons flying about and hidden within the city.

Mellaminn- An Elven City buried deep within the forest, and primarily made up of reclusive Elves and fey creatures. The city is home of a famous band of archers said to be able to hit a fly from 100 yards away at the dead of night.

Valegros- A Dwarven city and like Mellaminn is quite reclusive. In fact the translation of the city name is actually "Scram!" The Dwarfs were separated from the mainland by water and are quite happy to keep it as such.

Story Info

Post by shamballa »

The story begins with the group traveling down a route to a major city (they had been paid to guard the caravan). As they got closer to the city the caravan driver started sending scouts out to scout for bandits and to secure the way back. They went out and found that there were several undead soldiers lurking along the path waiting to ambush those passing by. The group managed to defeat them and realized that the undead were communicating with each other and seemed to retain some knowledge.

So they went to the city and by the time they got there they found the walls to be swarmed with an undead army. Through stealth, common sense (a little bit), fire starting, and knowledge they managed to make their way past the undead army into the city. After making it through they were recruited by the city guard and a priestess of Avandra into defending the city. They fought against massive odds but after the night was over they had managed to push back the undead army.

The next morning it was time for a counterattack. Scouts had managed to trace back the army to a cave and while the rest of the city guard attack the undead in various places to divert their attention, the group went to the cave and fought their way into and through it. Throughout the cave they found that some of the undead were digging and looking for something but seemed to have failed. After a while they found that there was something underneath the cave. They exited the cave and found themselves in a room with ritual circles and dead bodies all over it. In the center of it all they found an undead priest of vecna resurrecting the bodies and leading the army. They disposed of him and the undead ceased to be in the area. The priestess arrived and took a book off the table in which the group then realized that she was being possessed. She turned into some sort of Black ooze and teleported away leaving them to die.
