Re: Games

Post by masterclif »

The second game came across a closed town. Seems that the town had been attacked by some goblins. Lock down happened, and the gates were closed. A group of enterprising people came by and decided to finish off the goblins themselves for a substantial reward.

A scouting party was found and dealt with. From there, the group find directions to the main camp - some dwarven mines. These mines were supposed to be occupied by the industrious dwarves. Could something have happened to them?
The party proceeded down tunnels until they found the first groups of goblins and their pet giant rats. There were some large struggles, but the party remained victorious.

Now, the party is taking a breather in preparation for continuing the rescue of the dwarves.

This session saw the archer fall twice. Thankfully, his party helped him back up with heal checks.

They first fought 3 skeleton troopers and a defective. The defective went to dust right in the beginning. The next three were destroyed.
After that, they encountered the puzzle of HANAN. A six lever puzzle with 3 positions for each lever. While they dealt with it, they had to suffer attacks from snakes. Thanks to the fighter's quick thinking though, the hole was quickly plugged up with his shield.
After that, they encountered two more skeleton troopers, Zeru-master of the dead, his 4 doll minions, and a necrotic mist. This mist prevented them from seeing anything more then 4 feet away. It was a dangerous mist, and they had lots of problems finding the enemy with it. However, after a team effort, Zeru was finally taken down.
As the mist clears, the party decides to take a rest next to a coffin...

At the beginning, the mist did it's deadly disease. The fighter and avanger quickly fell to the affects. Their flesh melted, and they died, horibly. Only the grace of Dawn's god save her, and Maka managed to save through it.
This session found new people. They were unconsions in a room under the coffin. They revealed that the book the necromancer carried was a spellbook worth 1000g and a magic item for each of the party!
Maka was given the necromancer's magic staff, and she examined the thing while the rest of the party went ahead.
They encountered a room with bats. It caused a large ruckus for a minute, before dying down. As they approached the door across the way, one of them was almost hit by bat droppings. He made an exclaimation, and they woke something up. "YUM YUM!" Went the small ogre. He opened the door and attacked. The ogre was smart though. It later backed up, and let the others provoke as they entered. It took awhile, and severe blows were dealt on both sides, but in the end, the party was victorious! The ogre died blocking the next door, and it took a bit to pull the body out of the way.
On the other side of the door, they encountered Erelos, the Human Barbarian Thug. He was picking the locks. They tried to sneak in, but made too much noise, and he heard them. He belittled them, but Dawn was able to talk him into helping them for a share of the treasure. The others huddled and talked about the terms. They let slip a reward for the necromancer's book, and he asked who had it. One of them lied, and he caught on. As he started taking a firm stance at the door, the black dragonborn threw a javelin and started a fight. Erelos charged the dragonborn, but missed several times in that charge. Erelos was incapacitated right then and there, with the Runepriest refusing to take part in the battle. They party tied him up and left him there with his weapon.
After a few minutes, they shoved through the locked door to find the ogre's pet wolf. Ulrik proved too much a ranger and managed, through several skills, to finally calm the beast down.
The adventure is on pause. A statue with gem eyes. A large chest. And a door to the north. All these things await the party in what is sure to be the thrilling conclusion of Unicorn to Dwarven Lord!

The party took a break while they tended to their wounds. Dawn was seriously wounded, and had to tend to her wound some more. However, Makaria, Kraden, and Baern continued on.
In the next room, they met a goblin warrior and a goblin sharpshooter. When the battle began, the warrior started taking damage quick. He shouted for his boss to help, but nothing came. Seeing this, the sharpshooter abandoned the warrior to his fate, and hid in the next room.
As soon as the fight was over with the warrior, Kraden ran into the next room, just in time to see a wall close. The part investigated the wall, but could not find the mechanism. Dawn then shouted out, and the party came to the rescue. Dawn had tried to stop the goblin who was running away, but her injured arm buckled from the strain and the goblin got away.
In the center of the room stood a cage that was bent out of shape. Kobold tracks were found around it, but nothing else. The was no passage found, which means the Dwarven Mines were cleared of hostiles.

Those kobold tracks, could they have been from Uberminion?
That human rogue, does he have friends to avenge him upon the party?
The other two adventurers from the second party, where did they go off to?
Did the bard and fighter make it back to town safely?

And so ends the module, From Unicorn to Dwarven Lord.

[edit]No problem. I figured as much. You three had managed the last fight before hand, so it was just some room exploration, and that was it. The rest is continued here, since I didn't want to do the conclusion without you.[/edit]

The following posts are closure.

Kraden, managing to get himself closed in the cage, steps on a hammer. From the bottom of the hilt is a small banner of some sort of goblin chieftain. The party picks up Dawn, and they leave the mines. As they leave, the party sees two sets of tracks leading off. One set is from two goblins, heading to the east. The other set is of a lone kobold, that seem to disappear heading north to the coast.

The party, victorious, but at such a cost, manages to make their way back to town without further incident. Bearing the hammer of the goblin chieftain, the group proves the eradication of the monster menace. The town opens up it's gates, and is brought to the large house of the mayor.
The party is escorted inside, to an audience chamber. The chamber is a large rectangular room. Walls draped in red cloth, the floor a red carpet, and the ceiling has a depiction of a young red dragon breathing fire while flying through the air. The fire seems to emit a bright glow, lighting the room. At the end of the room is a large ornate desk made of rosewood, and polished to a high shine. Behind the desk sits a middle aged human man. While the top of his head is obviously bald, it seems he has combed the sides to over the top in a vain attempt at hiding the baldness. The high backed chair he sits on is again made of carved rosewood. At the tip of the arch on the back, sits a ruby. Staring at the ruby for too long seems to make your head ache, forcing your attention down, and to the mayor.
The mayor gets up from his chair to welcome them. He stands about five feet tall and has a heavyset build.
"Greetings. On behalf of the town, I give my thanks for dealing with our monster problem. As promised, you will receive the reward of 100 gold each. I hear you have an additional reward coming to you from Gobblesnit, one of our prized wizards. You will have to talk to him for that. Please, rest for a few days in our fine city. I'll have rooms prepared for you in the Sleeping Fish, our best inn. You will have 3 free days of room and board. Afterward, I may have another job for you."
He smiles and continues on. "Of course, there's the adventurers guild hall if you want to look for work. I'm sure they would love to have you join them."
He sits back down in his chair. Once he is seated, he seems even smaller because the chair dwarfs him so much. "Now, is there anything you wished to say?"

Kobold Ears!
Stolen Artifact!

Dawn arrived. She had been tracking Uber with some town guards. They found out that Uber had gone to the same cave as the orc and hobgoblins(a dwarven mine). The two guards stayed there to keep an eye out, and Dawn rushed back to town to pick up the party and recover the stolen artifact.
The group left town and safely(no randoms) to the cave. Upon nearing the cave, the party found lots of kobold tracks. Apparently a tribe of Kobolds had arrived while Dawn was getting everybody.
The party cautiously entered the cave and found arrows at regular intervals. Assuming the guards went in and left this as a trail, they followed the signs and found a secret trapdoor, hidden underneath the cave.
The group met the dwarven guards who were very inhospitable. The party talked their way into the Kobold stronghold, but didn't manage anything else. On entering, one of the party realized that this was actually an ancient dwarven stronghold, long since overtaken by various nasties.
The party stumbled along and made enough of a racket that some kobold guards sprung a surprise attack. The party easily defeated the four weak guards. It was almost too easy!
...
It was.
As the party was looting and finding out that kobolds don't have ears, the wall next to them burst! Kobolds were carrying metal poles with a ball on top sticking out of an apparatus on their backs. Metal looking ropes went from the pack to their large metal meshed gloves. They grabbed the rogue and the warden. The rogue squirmed out, but the warden couldn't get free. Some kind of lightning crackled down the pole, through the pack, down the ropes, into the metal mesh, and hit the warden with a huge force of power. The power was soo strong, it even shocked the kobold into stunned silence. The party exchanged blows with the four lightning kobolds. The battle ended with the party managing to win.

The group entered into the throne room. The old throne was decayed, and at some point, used as a chamber pot. It lay on it's side, moldy and forgotten. The group looked around at the tapestries, and then gave up and headed to the next room...
Where fortune smiled! They came across a bunch of Kobold Dragonshields sleeping. Everyone snuck over, and the ranged warlock stabbed with a knife. It didn't do near enough damage to kill the thing, and it woke with a start! All the Kobolds woke up, and the fight was on! The party had the upper hand, and managed to take out the Kobolds without much loss of health.
The party went into the ajoining room and found old tables in the middle. A couple of the party jumped on top of them, and a certain someone opened the west door.
Inside was a strong looking Kobold on a huge bed being serviced by two kobold slaves. The strong looking kobold boss picked up a red glowing club, yelled his battle cry, and the fight was on! His club could send out fire to attack his enemies, and he used it to hit as many as he could. The group took out one of the servants, and the other ran to the bed, put it's head into the covers, and closed it's eye. The party kept drawing him into the big room, and he kept drawing the party into the bed room. They brought him to almost staggering, he grinned, and drew the fire into himself for a second. Fire seemed to burst from his wounds, and some of them closed up! Baern ran into a corner in the big room, and the rest of the party was amazed. They quickly screwed up their courage, and the fight was resumed! Before any of them could do something, however, the east door opened, the wall next to it crumbled, and reinforcements came in! A large hulking Kobold with a strange weapon that had spinning blades attacked one person, and two of those lightning kobolds attacked the warlock. The warlock was stunned by the damage. The party was surrounded!

Session ends. What will happen next session? Will the party manage to live? Will the party meet it's DOOM?!

Stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel.

The reinforcements quickly pounded into their closest target: Zanne
Zanne's curse was revealed after she took numerous large hits. She transformed into a Wererat! The abilities she used in that form helped the party win the day. After the boss and the reinforcements were dealt with, Baern killed the servant kobold who was trying to hide in the pillows of the huge bed. Were-Zanne apparently didn't like that, and bit Baern before finally wrestling back to humanity. Baern discovered that the kobold cheif's 'club' was actually a flaming spear with a permanent illusion on it. Baern kept this find to himself, and kept the weapon, never using it.
Baern got a disease from the fight, and the party spent the next eight hours in the area. Nothing disturbed them. When Baern woke up, he discovered that the disease had gotten worse. Luckily, some of the reinforcements for the party arrived and one of them had a vial to cure diseases. It was intended for Zanne who had need of it, but Baern took it and quickly drank the vial. It cured him, and the party moved on, Zanne biding her time.

Knowing Zanne now needs something else to be cured, Dawn left with Faolan and Kraden to find out how to cure it.
The reduced party(augmented by a cleric), proceeded East past a large room, and found a broken gate(Room 10) that lead to an air vent leading up to the surface. Afterwards, they went into the room they had passed, and discovered a couple ghouls that were feeding on the dead. The party easily dealt with those two, and looted the room.
The party proceeded west and south, and opened a door that lead to a storeroom. Baern immediately entered to see if there was any loot, and walked into a Gelatinous Cube. During the resulting fight, Zanne 'accidentally' shoved a party member into the cube to join Baern. Apparently, the two had been arguing, and Zanne couldn't take it anymore. After the shove, Zanne lit the entire place on fire and took out the Gelatinous Cube. While inside the Gelatinous Cube, Baern found the remains of the previous meal. The body was surprisingly intact, not eaten away by the acid at all. On the body was some armor(nobody ended up using), an unholy symbol(nobody ended up using), and an amulet that gave it's wearer resistance to acid(Baern took it). The party discovered that the kobolds used this room as waste disposal.
After recovering, the party proceeded west to the crumbling earthen all, and then south to the south-western corner room. Inside, the party found beds that were kobold sized. Upon entering, something strange happened, the party triggered a teleport trap!
Brown kobolds were everywhere! The party were in a gladiatorial arena of some kind. Pillars seemed to be randomly placed. There were wooden barriers all around the edges, and a pit of deep red blood was in the middle, with a slippery bridge of pillars going down the middle of it. Inside was one brown kobold in the middle of the pit. This kobold's job seemed to be announcer, and claimed the party had to accomplish various challenges of skill if they wanted to get back. Any failure meant death.
After easily accomplishing challenges of strength, knowledge, and persuasion, the party made it to the last round: Sudden Death.
This round consisted of two brown Kobold Wild Mages who snuck in and attacked the party while they were unawares. Every attack the party missed with was accompanied by the Announcerbold teasing them. The onlooking kobold spectators would occasionally throw rotten fruits and stones at the party if they came in range, and the Kobold Wild Mages never hesitated in using that to their advantage. Zanne was thrown into the pit of blood multiple times by the Kobold Wild Mages. Zanne tried to do the same, and even succeeded once. On the west side of the arena, Baern duked it out with the other Kobold Wild Mage. The rest of the party alternated in attacking each of the Kobold Wild Mages, but they couldn't land a blow while the spectators distracted them.
Baern had to use his new strength of ice to give him power. Baern took multiple blows, but finally figured out how to land hits without the spectators interfering. Eventually, Baern's Kobold Wild Mage was dealt with, and he hurried to help Zanne. Zanne had had it with all the blood dunking, and lost control of her curse once more. She emerged from the blood pool as Were-Zanne and blindly charged the Kobold Wild Mage over and over again. The Kobold Wild Mage couldn't withstand the berserked Were-Zanne, and succumbed to her bite. Blood dripping from her fangs, even Baern paused in his step. However, her focus was on the a certain Announcerbold who had been pointing out the party's mistakes.
With a gulp, and a step back, the Announcerbold tried to run, but Baern and the rest of the party managed to cut off any escape. With Were-Zanne snapping her teeth, and the party surrounding him, Announcerbold declared them the mighty victors at last! In exchange for his life, he offered the party the way back, Magic Beans. Too tired to care anymore, Baern and the rest took the beans and were teleported away.
Except for Were-Zanne. Soon as the others left, Were-Zanne charge the Announcerbold! He panicked and ran as fast as his legs could take him, Were-Zanne snapping at his heels the entire time. The two started off in the south-eastern corner of the Arena, and ran around pillar after pillar. Finally, Were-Zanne managed to corner the Announcerbold between the northern wall, and a protrusion. Desperately, the Announcerbold grappled with Were-Zanne, and started forcing her to the pit of blood so he could run while she climbed out. How he managed to get her so far, nobody knows. Maybe it was the frantic desperation for his life, maybe it was because Were-Zanne was fighting for her humanity and was distracted. They managed to get to the edge of the pit before Zanne finally managed to regain her humanity one more time. Zanne deftly broke the grapple, and offered him one way to save himself. That he serve her. Already severely wounded, the Announcerbold agreed, and they both took the beans while Zanne held onto him.
When Zanne and Baern came back, they discovered something, the others were gone! Immediately suspecting something, Zanne violently questioned the Announcerbold. He managed to persuade the party that he had no idea. He wasn't even a part of the tribe here(who had green scales). The tribe of green kobolds promised riches to the browns if they could take care of any intruders who triggered the teleport trap. Two more reinforcements from the city arrived to help the party, and they went to proceed on and find their missing comrades.
The party didn't get far at all till two kobolds came from the north, and two more from the east. They were teams of a big(for a kobold) guy who had a weapon with spinning gears, and one of those big shock troopers who used lightning rods. The newcomers had a hard time with it, but the party managed to survive. Wounds mounting, the party pressed onwards. After taking one more look at the south-western room, the party went into a door that was right at the north-east corner of the room. This room had some white powder on the floor, and strange tracks that went from that room to a hole in the north wall. The room had the look of a kitchen that had been used in the past few days.
The party proceeded through the north door into a dining room of sorts with multiple benches and tables(kobold sized of course).
Finding nothing exceptional about the room, the party went through the west door and found another barracks. There were four chests, and a barrel. Baern directed the looting with great gusto. The chest at the north wall was trapped, and one of the newcomers was injured. The party started talking about barracading the two doors and spending some time to recouperate when they were attacked! The eastern door was shattered, and a duo big(for a kobold) and a shock trooper entered.

[more to come]

Room 11
Zanne discovered Meepo couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if he was 2 feet away with a cannon. Meepo claimed it was because the enemies intimidated him, but it didn't matter. Zanne killed the shock trooper, while the other party dispatched the big(for a kobold) kobolds.
Room 15
The party discovered this room to be a big closet with a well. The two new people made Meepo test the well water, and some of his aches and pains were healed. Meepo reported that the well water was actually bad, and everyone believed him. This led the party to move on.
Room 14
This room was a small sleeping area with barrels of provisions. After searching the barrels, a hidden compartment was found to contain a few silver and gold. Seeing nothing but low profit, and high danger for the new comers, they left to seek greener pastures. But as Zanne was telling them to stop, she turned a corner, and they were gone.
Room 16
More barracks and a dead kobold. The kobold was of the fragile kind, and looked to have been killed by acid right in front of a door. After inspecting the door for traps and finding nothing, the party opened it.
Room 17
In here was a supply closet. Mostly foodstuffs and some normal weapons, but nothing of the strange kind the party had found the kobolds using earlier.
