Icon help

Post by plothos »

I'm looking to get my MT startup all iconified, but the only icon file I can find here is this one:
http://gallery.rptools.net/v/contrib/Ha ... o_ico.html

and when I try to set the icon to this file it tells me the file contains no icons.
What am I doing wrong (assuming it's not the file)?
Drop-In Utilities:
My Spell Manager for D&D3.5 and PFRPG
My Inventory Manager for D&D and PFRPG, but more generally useable than that.
My Message Manager -- My Top-Down D&D Token Images
and my Custom Initiative & Status/Spell-Effect Tracker (work in progress, but functional).

Here's what I've got. I don't remember who did the original images, although I'm sure I have an email or PM here that has that info.

Those were from me. I created the originals for a few of them, but those are based off the original originals.

Thanks for the files, Azh. Those are great. :D

But I'm not seeing any .ico files. I tried changing the extension of one to .ico, but it didn't work. Maybe I'm just not understanding the .ico process. I know I've set .ico's before, though, and I think I used the file I posted. I suspect I'm missing something in the process.

ICO file is a special file and you need a converter. Use your favorite picture editor and take whatever image you like and make it a gif file. Set the transparency to the background color and then go Here. Upload and convert to ICO.

I just did this myself, minutes ago. I grabbed a random image off of google and you can use if you like. [attached file]

Okay, then yeah, I was doing it right, but the original .ico file I had doesn't work.

Thanks for the link. :)

Yeah, ico's are weird. Do we really need another graphics image format?

I mean maybe 20 years ago it was important to have a super small file size that was only a 2-color or 4-color icon. But nowadays PNGs should be used for that kind of stuff. :)

agreed! xD
but I think the thing with an .ico file is that you can have multiple image sizes saved into one file. I'm not quite sure how it works but I know there's more to an ico than meets the eye.
that said .pngs would be on the whole a lot easier.
