I use ventrilo for all my games, will not game without it, makes games much faster, and adds to that 'around the table' feel.

Skype is free. I use it for demos. Seems to work well for me. Some people here don't like it though.

Hello Dorpond

thankyou, I think I got a version of Skype with my PC when I bought it, ill give it a try!

when you say you do demos, Im looking just to put a toe in the water, as Im so so new to D&D! Ive only browsed the Rules in the basic game miniatures but I love it, and want to see how online play works. I dont want to get into a campangn every week etc.. before Im confatable with whats going on!

Ive got bad eyesight thats why Im asking for sound, reading a little bit hard after a page or two!

can I be a Non player and watch a demo?

thanks Mark

And if you use windows, the magnifier tool should work quite nicely as well.

 ROFLMAO

Honestly, I don't have a problem with people using Skype if it is the best/only tool for them to use, and I really don't have anything against the application itself. It is the company and their business practices that I really don't like, and their underhanded methods of making Skype "work". All they would have to do is provide a method to better control its use and be able to turn off or block certain things and they would have my vote. Until then I consider them to be  .

Ok, I'm done now.

We're paying $4 a month for a private space on a Vent' server. We switched from Skype because of the user limit. If there's a free option, I'd love to know about it.

About D&D Minis... Wizards of the Coast has published in PDF form the Basic Rules and the Advanced Rules and they also have all of their Minis stat cards and images available online with the Warband Generator. For some great maps, check out Vry's D&D Minis Battlemaps.

So if you're using MapTool to play, you've basically got everything you need to play D&D Minis - for FREE! We use Minis games for our in-between-campaigns weeks, and it's a pretty fun way to spend an evening online.
