Windows Mobile 5

Post by Zerianthekeeper »

Just a quick question, I am getting a HTC PPC6800 next month and I am just curious if anyone has tried to run any of the rptools on it.

Have this question all the time... quick answer, no. Windows Mobile doesn't use the full version of Java, but if you buy Trevor a phone and pay for his service I hear he can make it work. ;)

So, next question anyone know if the full version can be installed? I did some checking and have not found anything.

Again, based on what other Java programmers have told me, this is not possible. The Windows Mobile OS and other handheld devices do not support the full version requirements nor does the hardware.

I typically end up recommending http://www.oqo.com to those that want a hand held device that can use the full version of windows and Java. At least with that you can connect a full size monitor and such. I personally would be frustrated to no end trying to use MT on such a small window with regard to mobile devices.

Hm... that is a fair consideration. Dicetool may be small enough to use that way. Maybe Jay or Giliath can chime in?

Would the battery for you phone last a whole gaming session even if you could get Maptool running on it?

I dont know why it wouldn't but I guess I didnt really think about it. it can hold a charge for 8 days on idle or 4 hours of talking. I didnt think that dicetool would suck up that much of the system resorces.

None of the RPTools can run on J2ME because it doesn't support Swing components. All of the tools use swing components for their UI. The J2ME support has it's own user interface components which are very different from the Swing stuff.
