I both play in and run 4e games at the moment and wonder what opinion people have of Hero Lab as a replacement for WotC Character Builder?
I still have a DDI account and use their tools extensively, both for character creation and monster data. I particularly like the ability to grab character abilities from other books and wonder whether that is possible with Hero Labs or does it stick to core book abilities? Can I add any magic item I want? Do the scores match the scores from the DDI Character Builder? And ultimately, is it worth paying for?
cheers!
You experience of Hero Lab??

You should check the official Hero Lab 4e forum: http://forums.wolflair.com/forumdisplay ... ab15a&f=60
And here is a community run forum for mods and fixes: http://hl4e.cryptoknight.org/index.php?action=forum
From what I can tell 4e is no longer supported by the developer and not all that well supported by the community any more either.
You also might want to look at Starman's 4e MT framework. It's been around for nearly 10 years now and is regularly updated. Not sure what sources it integrates or how hard it is to get new info into it: viewtopic.php?f=58&t=20749
