Live D&D Show - Featuring MapTool - 5/15/2009 @ 7PM Pacific

Post by Tyren »

Well, you guys asked me to advertise our next live show. It is going to be tonight. The basic way this works is you go to our show page at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/live-dnd

This loads a flash program that shows the live video feed (with about a 3-6 second delay). On the right is a chat window that allows you to chat with me. Feel free to chat with each other as well. They made changes recently that make is hard (impossible?) to chat without creating an account, so if you want to chat, I recommend you make an account, its really fast and easy.

I'll do my best to keep up with the chat, but we are going to be playing D&D. There will be times when I am "in the game".

Also, to set expectations correctly, we aren't going to do anything special to "spice up" the game for the video feed. Some people have come in and commented "this is dumb" or "this is boring". But we are just playing D&D, if you don't want to watch, just close the browser and go on about your evening! I will try my best to make it as interactive as possible, but I don't want to disturb the flow of the game either.

The "cast" page can be found at: http://tyrendes.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!3B5F578C5068731F!318.entry

Anyone saying it's dumb or boring doesn't understand what you're trying to do in the first place.

Nifty.

I launched a chicken dance when I registered. :)

Great setup. Makes me miss f2f gaming.

Thanks for sharing.

you SHOULD be able to password ustream feeds, if you want to keep out wandering strays from dropping in and being all "this is lame" like

Nah, I'm okay with that. I just wanted to set expectations. The random wanderer is okay.

I should probably create a new post, but the summer is over and fall is upon us. This means that "season 2" of the Live D&D show is starting up! We are running the Scales of War adventure path starting with level 1 characters in Brindol as the cast embarks on Rescue at Rivenroar.

The game will air live on 10/11/2009 at 1pm PST. The feed will stream at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/live-dnd

Hope you can stop in and say HI!

How have you found Ustream? I have tried it a few times at it was impossible to find my channel and it seemed to really eat up my machine. How does it compare to say Tokbox? Which has work well for us.

In all honest... I haven't tried anything else. UStream works fine. The streaming software does take a bit of resources, but we have a dedicated machine for that, so it's no worry.
