Discussion between Louveria and Mal:
[8:16:23 PM] Harry Truong: How old are you?
[8:16:30 PM] Harry Truong: as a matter fact
[8:16:32 PM] Harry Truong: how old is everyone?
[8:16:40 PM] Germo: 21
[8:16:48 PM] Matt Denton: I lost count
[8:16:49 PM] Harry Truong: their characters i mean just to clarify
[8:16:58 PM] Matt Denton: Somewhere over 400
[8:17:22 PM] Germo: my character is 3 months (at least) ahead of me.... bastard....
[8:17:37 PM] Troy Smith: 24
[8:17:52 PM] Harry Truong: and are you a kalashatar?
[8:18:00 PM] Matt Denton: Are you writing a book, elf?
[8:18:13 PM] Harry Truong: I only want to know those I travel with
[8:18:52 PM] Matt Denton: You got to know that werewolf girl pretty well. Are you certain you wish to move on so quickly?
[8:19:53 PM] Harry Truong: I think I'm quite well. However you hide so much, how can we trust you when we know nothing about you
[8:19:53 PM] Germo: wasnt that kain?
[8:20:04 PM] Mista Kain!: lol
[8:20:06 PM] Mista Kain!: yeah
[8:20:22 PM] Matt Denton: just a reference to her chasing the wolf down into the forest
[8:20:32 PM] Matt Denton: dead set on making the beast's acquaintence
[8:21:02 PM] Germo: im so friggin confused..... can everyone change their skype pics to their character pics?
[8:21:06 PM] Matt Denton: "Very well, you may label me as such, if it makes you feel better. The term is rather modern, and fits well enough. Though I don't know how such labels truly define one."
[8:22:05 PM] Harry Truong: "I haven't labelled you as anything aside dodgiing what should be simple questons"
[8:22:17 PM] Matt Denton: Actions speak. Words lie. When the ranger passed us by, were we truly friends? Would you believe me if I said yes? If I said no?
[8:22:37 PM] Matt Denton: And ultimately, what difference would such a word mean?
[8:22:45 PM] Harry Truong: "A trick, no doubt, we should have fought them"
[8:23:01 PM] Matt Denton: *shrugs* "To what end?"
[8:23:34 PM] Harry Truong: "At the knowledge that they were thieves and poachers"
[8:23:51 PM] Matt Denton: "New vermin fills the space evacuated by old vermin."
[8:24:01 PM] Matt Denton: "Better the enemy you know than the one you do not."
[8:24:18 PM] Harry Truong: "If you take on that philosphy, why fight at all?"
[8:24:35 PM] Matt Denton: "Why fight poachers? Clearly I did not."
[8:24:37 PM] Harry Truong: "You hide much, how can we trust you"
[8:25:08 PM] Matt Denton: "You put great emphasis on words. Would you prefer that I spin a story for you?"
[8:25:24 PM] Harry Truong: "I would prefer you to speak as much as you'd like, but for it to be the truth"
[8:25:49 PM] Matt Denton: "The answers you find to the questions I have posed is the only real truth..."
[8:26:43 PM] Harry Truong: "Then what are you?"
[8:27:26 PM] Matt Denton: "As I said, those are answers you must answer for yourself. I am me. That should suffice."
[8:27:40 PM] Matt Denton: "Label me as you see fit."
[8:27:45 PM] Harry Truong: "may suffice for the common stranger you see on the street"
[8:27:54 PM] Harry Truong: "I would rather put some more faith in those fighting next to me"
[8:29:29 PM] Harry Truong: "And as of now, your dodging of the questions instlls in me only doubt of your intentions or capabilities"
[8:30:44 PM] Matt Denton: "I dodge no question. You are asking questions without meaning. Perhaps you do not understand though. I suppose I cannot begrudge such limitations."
[8:31:05 PM] Matt Denton: "Ask your questions, if it comforts you."
[8:31:27 PM] Harry Truong: "If you believe one's race is a label and limitation for you"
[8:31:37 PM] Harry Truong: "Then how would you define yourself in your own words"
[8:32:40 PM] Matt Denton: He speaks a single word, low and almost inaudible. "Seeker."
[8:33:12 PM] Harry Truong: "and what it is to be a seeker by your own words?"
[8:33:37 PM] Matt Denton: "It is a term defined by action, not speaches."
[8:33:45 PM] Matt Denton: speeches*
[8:34:42 PM] Harry Truong: "Your moral code, your ethics, you say are defined by action, what sort of action do you strive to do?"
[8:35:36 PM] Matt Denton: He smirks, but not condescendingly. "I seek."
[8:36:13 PM] Matt Denton: "But what of these?" he points to the others. "What of their labels and stories? How do you know they are true?"
[8:36:38 PM] Matt Denton: "Do you take their word for it? Do you know them? Not superficially - but do you truly _know_ them?"
[8:37:10 PM] Matt Denton: "What of yourself? Do you know her?"
[8:37:30 PM] Harry Truong: "I know me and my ancestors help guide me in exploring myself further"
[8:37:58 PM] Harry Truong: "As for these others, their methdology will be shown in the lair below"
[8:38:21 PM] Harry Truong: "We have only travelled together for a short time, I must see if they live first"
[8:38:43 PM] Troy Smith: oh well I'm a hoot and a half :)
[8:38:44 PM] Harry Truong: "Though you, I do not see dying as something forseeable"
[8:39:08 PM] Matt Denton: "Can anyone forsee his own death?"
[8:39:40 PM] Harry Truong: "As for their lies or their truths, they may speak as they wish, but in the end they wiill be as you said "defined by action" "
[8:39:56 PM] Harry Truong: "One who chooses death can forsee it"
[8:40:39 PM] Matt Denton: He shrugs, half-heartedly. He clearly doesn't agree, but decides not to press the issue.
[8:42:56 PM] Harry Truong: "do you not agree that this exchange of words has helped us understand each in a greater light?"
[8:44:05 PM] Matt Denton: "I understand that you are a seeker. Similar to me, but different. For now, though, that is all I recognize from this discussion."
[8:44:18 PM] Matt Denton: "But your inquisitive nature is an asset."
[8:45:08 PM] Harry Truong: "You should speak with the others, I would not want to cloud your opinion of them"
[8:45:17 PM] Harry Truong: *nods head in approving manner*
[8:45:50 PM] Harry Truong: "and I respect one's choice to use few words when their hands speak far more"
[8:47:07 PM] Matt Denton: He smiles. "I will know them soon enough."
[8:47:27 PM] Harry Truong: *nods head once more in approving manner*

Discussion between Bishop and Germo:
[10/12/2011 11:14:48 PM] Bishop(Troy): Well then lets start with how you managed to cast summon familiar to get Akrab when you can't speak
[10/12/2011 11:14:54 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ( ~Denotates Germo, otherwise its the smartass bird)
[10/12/2011 11:15:20 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Akrab was a present from my master
[10/12/2011 11:16:25 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~It was he who preformed the ceremony on us, beyond that is a secret he kept well
[10/12/2011 11:18:01 PM] Bishop(Troy): and so how is that you ended up way out here away from your lab?
[10/12/2011 11:18:14 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Acquisitions
[10/12/2011 11:19:18 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~My master was keen on very few things, one of them was that you could never see too many places, and to see them is to be able to return.
[10/12/2011 11:20:50 PM] Bishop(Troy): how odd is it that many of us wound up here with news of missing children despite it just happening?
[10/12/2011 11:20:58 PM] Bishop(Troy): I don't suppose you could shed any light on that
[10/12/2011 11:23:19 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~I heard of it shortly before heading to town, I am most interested in these ruins, and certain favors can be a powerful tool.
[10/12/2011 11:23:52 PM] Viktoria(Kain): ((cya dudes.))
[10/12/2011 11:23:54 PM] Bishop(Troy): certain favors?
[10/12/2011 11:23:57 PM] Bishop(Troy): cya kain
[10/12/2011 11:24:17 PM] Bishop(Troy): are you trying to make contact with this cult?
[10/12/2011 11:27:59 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Of corse not, I am of course speaking of the favor of the people to wich we return the children.
[10/12/2011 11:29:18 PM] Bishop(Troy): Now you're making sense, contacting the cult...what was I thinking
[10/12/2011 11:29:58 PM] Bishop(Troy): well you said you were interested in the ruins, so I take it you already knew about them before arriving. What can you tell me about them?
[10/12/2011 11:34:20 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Nothing much, all I know is that they are here, I found a dusty old map in a Sivis' scribe shop, showing a strange ruin. Ruins mean old, old can be valuable. Especially if it is magic. Recreating old magics can be fullfilling, and can give power to an undecided cannith like myself.
[10/12/2011 11:35:44 PM] Bishop(Troy): The hobgoblin warrior Deldrin told us about, he believed the ruins were hobgoblin, do you know if he was right?
[10/12/2011 11:40:38 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~I would not know goblin script from halfling script I am afraid, and although I have a inkling twords creation, I have no specific knowledge of architecture.
[10/12/2011 11:41:38 PM] Bishop(Troy): hmm, well I guess we'll just have to see when we get there
[10/12/2011 11:44:29 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~We shall. Now what of you? How did you come to this remote part of Khorvaire?
[10/12/2011 11:45:05 PM] Bishop(Troy): strangely enough I was hired to come out here to find the kids
[10/12/2011 11:45:38 PM] Bishop(Troy): I received a letter...going on two week ago with a hefty retainer to get me here
[10/12/2011 11:46:14 PM] Bishop(Troy): no one in town seems to recognize me and by the looks of them I doubt any of them could have sent me the money
[10/12/2011 11:46:52 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Two weeks? Either this was planned out, and we must watch our steps and tread lightly, or this was forseen, and we must still watch our steps and tread lightly. Intrigueing.
[10/12/2011 11:47:37 PM] Bishop(Troy): my thoughts exactly, but I don't seem to be the only one here who knew about the kids before hand
[10/12/2011 11:48:24 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Mayhap we have this mysterious cult to thank for this.
[10/12/2011 11:48:29 PM] Bishop(Troy): I've been trying to make a connection between us, but so far I'm not seeing one
[10/12/2011 11:49:08 PM] Bishop(Troy): could be, but that begs the question doesn't it? Why us
[10/12/2011 11:53:06 PM | Edited 11:53:16 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~More then ever, but while you ask why us, I ask, 'Why here?' and 'Why the kids?'. I just happened to be in a tavern in Varna plotting a course here when I learned about the children and the connection to the ruin. The thought never occured to me that I may have been ment to hear that conversation outside my window...
[10/12/2011 11:55:12 PM] Bishop(Troy): powerful divination magics? one helluva case of coincidences?
[10/12/2011 11:55:42 PM] Bishop(Troy): I think if we can find a link between us we can find out more about who might be behind this
[10/12/2011 11:56:33 PM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): Wouldn't happen to be a bird in disguise, woulda bighat? *squaking laughter*
[10/12/2011 11:57:05 PM] Bishop(Troy): That's Mr. birdbrain to you
[10/12/2011 11:57:19 PM] Bishop(Troy): I've spoken to Louveria already, no surprise she was in the last war. What about you?
[10/12/2011 11:58:41 PM | Edited 12:00:25 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~ I was traveling and training with my master, we tended to steer clear of politics within the house, but being of Cannith gave us safe passage in most places. Besides the ones that loathed the warforged.

[12:00:50 AM] Nik: Takk: "I hear you talk. You say plan or prophecy. Even kings need great treasure reserves to pull of great plans. If a plan it is, then where is the money from. Prophecy's leave great history in thier wake. They are passed down through the ages. If a prophecy it is, they you will find history of it."

[12:06:24 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~Those places were the worst. No matter how much we helped, no matter how nice we were, the second we revealed ourselves as Cannith, we were treated as lepers.
[12:09:10 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): ~No matter how much we helped... *cluches a hand over his chest, and seems lost in a bad memory*
[12:10:10 AM] Bishop(Troy): You alright there? You're losing me
[12:11:50 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): *snaps back to attention*~Best not to dwell on the past, let us get some rest least we be tired when we are needed. that and Akrab is hungry, he needs to go hunting for... well its not too polite to say what this one eats.
[12:12:17 AM] Bishop(Troy): hope it's not werewolves
[12:12:20 AM] Bishop(Troy): we're fresh out
[12:14:05 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): werewolves are only good after a few days in the sun! and riddle me this bighat, how was it that mr furry-that-may-eat-birds did not smell a dog in our presence?
[12:15:10 AM] Bishop(Troy): your deliciousness might be overpowering his other senses, better watch out
[12:17:31 AM | Edited 12:17:55 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): * squaks, then flies off saying* Werewolves, Werewolves, In the night. Silver moon to transform and silver knife the blight. Who will fall in the final fight? No naught do I, as this bird takes flight!
[12:18:52 AM] Bishop(Troy): "I'm going to need a cool sidekick to spout off cool lines like that too..."
[12:19:47 AM] ShadowfireOmega(Germo): *Germo smiles and bows his head in farewell, then heads to his tent for the night.

Takk: "The king needs the blood of five pink-skinned children to bless his crown to break the curse. It has been fortold by the elder one. Me no know when but the ritual must make the right moment. Must make the right time. One chance only for the King. So it must be right."
[9:26:35 AM] Nik: If asked he woudl have devulged what he knows about the sacrifice. I just ton't hink anyone really asked him yet
[9:27:05 AM] Harry Truong: I had asked him
[9:27:14 AM] Harry Truong: "what could you tell us more about the ritual"
[9:27:19 AM] Harry Truong: sorry if it got looked over
[9:27:27 AM] Nik: nah its my bad
[9:28:53 AM] Nik: "Little for the ritual, but that there is a stabby-stabby, cutty-cutty to get set. Lots of yelling.
[9:29:02 AM] Nik: ""
[9:29:49 AM] Nik: "The Elder will take the hearts himself. Then use thier blood to bless the crown."
[9:29:57 AM] Nik: Man is drainging to speak like a kobold lol
[9:30:04 AM] Nik: they have it rough being soo darn stupid
[9:30:27 AM] Harry Truong: lol
[9:30:43 AM] Harry Truong: so basically must use kids at specific time and use their blood/hearts in order to bless his crown which is cursed
[9:31:12 AM] Nik: *blink, blink* He just stares at you with a blank stare.
[9:31:24 AM] Nik: awaiting orders lol
[9:32:27 AM] Harry Truong: I need to go check action point rules lol
[9:32:32 AM] Harry Truong: in case i need to use one for this fort save
[9:32:43 AM] Nik: LOL sounds good
[9:34:01 AM] Nik: You'll find that the more you speak with him he seems to have a gift for anticipating the needs of others. Even though his intellegence seem pretty low, he has an uncanny gift for predicting small things. Like clearing a spot for you to sit while you're thinking of how tired you are and contimplating sitting down. If you start to look for something you've lost he has already started looking for it and has prolly found it before you realize that hes helping you look.
[9:34:19 AM] Nik: He doesn't seem to know how things work but can predict when the players need them.
[9:34:33 AM] Nik: This is unique to Takk only.
[9:34:39 AM] Harry Truong: Tell him to find a cure light potino that happens to be on the ground
[9:34:59 AM] Nik: "I know where some are hidden . . . . "
[9:35:06 AM] Harry Truong: oooh...
[9:35:12 AM] Harry Truong: I'll ask him this
[9:35:21 AM] Harry Truong: "Did you see a hogoblin? Large green man?"
[9:35:43 AM] Nik: "Chief stabby-poke stole them last moon. He hid them. Hes dead now."
[9:36:39 AM] Nik: "Large green man? No" He seems to be worried that he can't come up with an answer for you and continues to consider the question untill asked another.
[9:37:05 AM] Harry Truong: "Did you see 4 people enter here, wear armor, who come with this one?" *points to corpse*
[9:37:39 AM] Nik: "Nope." He frowns.
[9:38:13 AM] Nik: He gets upset when he can't answer a question or be helpful when asked. It shows in his mannerisms.
[9:38:26 AM] Harry Truong: "You have been helpful, stay near Bishop"
[9:38:45 AM] Nik: *Shakes his head vigorously.*

It is 10/17/2011

For the game tomarrow (10/18/2011 Tuesday) I am going to be setting up shop at 4pm Eastern (my time). If you are on and free join up, we will be setting up early to kick things off as soon as possible. If you cannot get on that early don't worry about it, but please make it by 5pm Eastern.

Next game we will be discussing yet another possible time change and lack of group cohesion. You will be leveling AFTER the game Tuesday (providing you defeat the Forgespurned).

To help streamline play as much as possible PLEASE be aware of what your spells can do and beable to relate that information to the DM.

Matt has dropped due to time constraints and I wish him the best of luck. I will be hanging on to his name for future games and what not.I have written something special for his character to explain his absence.

I have some good stuff lined up for yall and hope you all enjoy the next session. I will catch you all on Skype.

Conversation between Louveria and Sven during the battle with all the dolgrims.

[12:18:07 AM] Harry Truong: *walks into the room with the group close behind, looking at the dolgrims in the room, as well as a strange man with 4 arms and a few more oddities behind him*
[12:18:24 AM] Harry Truong: *places her left hand on her sword and uses her thumb to pop the sword a bit from the scabbard"
[12:19:40 AM] Harry Truong: *her eyes lock with sven's*
[12:20:05 AM] Nik: Dear Sister, you look angry.
[12:20:20 AM] Nik: Control those emotions (He mocks you with a smile.)
[12:20:48 AM] Harry Truong: "Why are you here brother"
[12:21:09 AM] Harry Truong: "and why would you take children, there's no honor in taking the helpless"
[12:22:38 AM] Nik: Honor . . . . I remember that. I had forgotten how petty life used to be.
[12:23:12 AM] Nik: Why sister, why don't you join us. I will show you true freedom. You can have all the slaughter and battle you crave.
[12:23:18 AM] Nik: (He holds his hand out to you)
[12:23:32 AM] Harry Truong: *keeps her hands to her side*
[12:24:39 AM] Harry Truong: "Slaughter should only come to the wicked and battles should only take place between the worthy or......the fallen"
[12:25:40 AM] Nik: (His smile fades into a grimace.) You always were the stubborn one.
[12:25:59 AM] Harry Truong: "That sword has warped you, you must fight its influence"
[12:27:37 AM] Nik: You can't possibly know the power it holds. How could you? You are still yet a simple elf. I can help you expand beyond this mortal form. We all have and soon the rest of the world will too. You have but to step aside.
[12:29:11 AM] Nik: In the time it has taken you to master the few powers you know I have not only surpassed you but taken on disciples as well. (He points to the oversized Dolgrim wielding four kukris.)
[12:29:23 AM] Harry Truong: *pops her sword further out of her scabbard with her thumb*
[12:29:36 AM] Nik: Who is more the fool, the one who grasps opportunity or . . . . think what you are doing little sister . . .
[12:29:51 AM] Nik: (He eyes your blade wearily)
[12:29:56 AM] Harry Truong: "I will stand where I belong, between you and those who can not defend themselves"
[12:30:50 AM] Harry Truong: "Power is that which you can control, corruption is when power controls you"
[12:34:18 AM] Nik: (His face turns red and he begins to reach for the black blade. He calms himself and sighs heavily.) You have dissappointed me dear sister. I had hopped that we could share in the glories of the daelkyr together. Alas, fate has chosen a different path for you. (He turns to his initiate.) Do not go easy on her. You will find her a worthy foe. (He turns back to you) Even if she ignorant of the world and what it holds. (He waves a hand toward Gawk signaling that hes ready to leave and turns his back toward you as he begins to make his way to the crimson portal)
[12:37:02 AM] Harry Truong: "Your master has sent you to your death initiate"
[12:37:03 AM] Harry Truong: "You will not be returning to him"
[12:39:01 AM] Nik: The master has taught us all he knows. (His words echo as if two seperate beings with different voices were speaking at one time.) Though I heed his warning, I doubt you are truly a threat to us.
[12:40:13 AM] Nik: (The crimson flash of the portal fills the room as Gawk and Sven exit. The light ignites a furry of activity as the lesser Dolgrim charge for your companions and the initiate takes his martial stance and faces off against you.)
[12:43:06 AM] Harry Truong: *insert scene where I cut initiate into several chunks*

Louveria consults with her Patron Ancestor Cidolfus

Cid: There are things in this world that we cannot change. We must find the courage to accept this. There are other things in this world that we must find the courage to change. You must decide which of these is the best couse for you to take with your brother. He is truly a lost soul and will himself come to ruin if not the ruin of others. Is it worth it to continue an attempt of salvation at the loss of those he will destroy? What is the price of his soul . . . . or yours?

Louveria: "I will think over your words Cid, perhaps there will be a day that salvation will no longer be possible, but it is not this day"

Germo-Jurin Social

Post by Shadowfireomega »

Streamlined social w/jurin: (remember, this is when I thought it was mark of shadow not death)
Germo: How do you feel about your mark?
Jurin: I still don't believe it, everytime i think about it, it starts to burn
*at that moment the mark starts to glow slightly*
Germo: Do you have any family besides your father that you could go live with?"
Jurin: My only family was my father, nanny and the other servents, and my father never was close to me. What is happening here?
Germo: Im gonna be straight with you, the people who did all this are looking for you.
Jurin: So all this is my fault?
Germo: No, listen to me, it is not your fault, the only fault lies with the ones who do the harm.
Jurin: But if I was to die, that would stop them...
Germo: Never think like that, even though you may have to live with destiny, ending your life will not solve anything.
Jurin: How would I live with this destiny?
Germo: By fighting it.

Eberron Campaign Player Profiles

Post by Shadowfireomega »

For Nik's Eberron Campaign, as with before, please resist posting if not in group.

I thought it would be cool to make character profiles to pass the time a bit. Ill start first in next post.

A few rules to keep the mystery going!

1.Post only:

What someone can tell by looking at you.
What you have told others about yourself.
What someone could imply about you by from previous adventures.
~This is to ensure an evolving character perception

2.After your first post, do not add another, edit and put a New Info section in, gradually adding older info to the previous content while updating with new.
~This is so we don't clutter this thread and make it illegable

IF you make a second post I will delete it, and may or may not add the info to your first post, depending on what medium I'm accessing the internet from and if I have the patience.

Germo 'The Raven' Kematian d'Cannith

Post by Shadowfireomega »

Image

Germo 'The Raven' Kematian d'Cannith

Basic Information:
Germo stands 6'2, weighs 200 lbs
Human Wizard of house Cannith
He speaks through his raven, Akrab, as he is mute due to birth complications that are beyond any healing.

Conversation with Bishop revealed:

Akrab was a gift from Germo's master
Is interested in magical progression through both creation and study.
Apparently does not know either Halfling nor Goblin.
Traveled with his master during his training, gathering 'places' so that he can eventually return.
Seems to have some troubling history he would rather forget.
Is not aligned with any of the house Cannith heads.

Other info from throughout played games:

Parents died in Cyre.
Had bandages covering his upper body.
Tends to think things over carefully, maybe even over-think some times.
Not very stingy with healing potions.
Never misses a chance to gain a favor or two from potential allies.
Knows Draconic and Elven.
Seems to have some sort of advanced bond with Akrab.
Carries a fair number of potions and scrolls.

[This takes place during Bishops brief period of unconsciousness in the Forgespurned cavern]

With the bite of the flayed hound and the wave of flame washing over me I fell unconscious. A fade to black..It was more like I felt myself putting together some kind of awareness, the way a stagehand constructs a set. Evidently I was a minimalist, because the reality I awoke to was a bare black floor, a single hanging lamp overhead, and three chairs.
I walked forward into the light and stared at the chairs.
In one sat The Shadowman, in its vaguely humanoid, but ultimately shapeless form. It wore prison shackles, wrists and feet, and sat in the chair.
In the second chair was me. Well. It was a version of me, some kind of subconscious alter ego of mine. His hair was clipped shorter and neater than mine, and he wore a dark beard that was kept in similar fastidious order. He wore a black silk shirt, black trousers, his fingertips held together in a steeple that rested on his chin.
“Another dream," I said, and sighed. I slumped down into the third chair. I looked more or less as I had when I was attacked. My shirt was slashed open, though there wasn't any blood on my torso, and my skin hadn't been burned and ripped with fang marks. Wishful thinking.
"Not precisely a dream," the subconscious me said. "Call it a meeting of the minds."

The Shadowman smiled, very slightly.

"No," I said, and pointed at the Shadowman. "I've said everything I intend to say to it." I turned to my alter ego—though on thinking about it, maybe alter id was more accurate. "As for you, you're sort of a jerk. And the whole look you've got going there says 'evil warlock,' which I am now professionally opposed to."
Alterna-Bishop sighed. "I've told you before. I'm not some sort of dark demon. I'm simply the more primal essence of yourself. The one most concerned with such matters as food. Survival." His dark eyes flickered idly over to a conjuration of Viktoria. "Mating," he said, a lazy growl to the tone. He looked back to me. "The important things in life."
"That I am even having this dream probably means that I need a good therapist," I said. I stared at my other self and said, "It was you, wasn't it? You called upon this thing back at Darius’s house during the fire."
"Make sure you remember that I am a part of you before you point any fingers," he said. "And yes. The potential for power in an alliance with The Shadowman"—he inclined his head to it, a courtly, polite gesture—"was too great to simply ignore. There are too many things out there determined to kill you. So long as you have it’s mark, you both have the option to seek more power if necessary to protect yourself or others, and you prevent that power from being used by unscrupulous sorts."

I grimaced. "So?"

"So," he said. "This is a time to consider employing a portion of that power."

I stared at him and said, "You've been talking to it behind my back."

"For months," he said calmly. "It was only polite. After all, you wanted nothing to do with it."

"You donkey-in-a-pit," I said. "The whole reason I wasn't talking was that I didn't want the temptation."

"I did," my subconscious said. "Honestly, you should listen to me more often. If you'd taken my advice about Atur you wouldn’t be a pennyless shmuck in Korth"

The Shadowman coughed gently and said, "Gentlemen. If I might offer a suggest—"

Both I and my alternative self said, at the same time and in exactly the same voice, "Shut up."

The Shadowman blinked, but did.

My double and I eyed each other, and I nodded slowly. "We're in agreement, then, that its presence and its influence are dangerous."

"We are," my double said. "It must not be allowed to dictate actions or to direct our choices through suggestion or manipulation." My double looked at it and said, "But it can and should be used as a resource, under careful control. It can offer us enormous amounts of power." He eyed it again and said, "And amusement."

The Shadowman left its eyes down and smiled, very slightly, transforming itself into an exact replica of Viktoria.

"No," I said. "I've got all the power I can handle right now. And if I want sex, I'll… figure out something."

"You don't have enough now," my double said. "And you've wanted sex since about twenty minutes after the last time you had it."

"That's beside the point," I told him sullenly. "I'm not quite insane enough to let…this thing, give me metaphysical nooky, just for kicks."

"Listen to me," he said, and his voice became sharp, commanding. "Here's the cold truth. You are determined to take us into battle against forces you cannot possibly overcome through main strength. Not only that, but your source of assistance, these “friends”, may also turn against you if they learn the truth about you. You are wounded. You are out of contact with your other allies."

"It's the right thing to do," I said, setting my jaw.

My double rolled his eyes. "Tell me, is it morally necessary for you to die in the process?"

I glowered at him.

"My point," he said, "is that you have little or no chance to prevail on your own. You must know how to manipulate these energies you have now before you’re down in the warrens or you might as well cut your own wrists."

"Don't have to," I told him. "I could just sit and wait for the Forged Spurned to come by."

"Six of one, half a dozen of another," my double agreed. "In addition, your body is in no condition to do anything at the moment." He leaned forward. "Free it to help us."

I inhaled slowly and stared at The Shadowman for a moment. Then I said, "After I killed Darius and got my head together at Victors place, I promised myself something. I promised that I would live my life on my own terms. That I knew the difference between right and wrong and that I wouldn't cross the line. I wouldn't allow myself to become like Darius Blackthorn."

"Don't you want to survive?" my double asked.

I rose from the chair and started walking into the darkness outside the light. "Of course I do. But some things are more important than survival."

"Yeah," my double said. "Like the people who are going to get killed when you die and don't stop this ritual."

I froze at the edge of the darkness.

"Take the high road if you want to," my double said. "Choose to walk away from this strength in the name of principle. But after your noble death, everyone you no longer protect, everyone who might one day have come to you for help, everyone who is killed in the aftermath of this—every life you might have protected in the future will be on your head."

I stared at the darkness and then closed my eyes.

"Regardless of where it came from, The Shadowman offers you power. If you turn aside from that power—power only you can take up—then you abandon your commitment to protect and defend those who are not strong enough to do it themselves."

"No," I said. "That isn't… that isn't my responsibility."

"Of course it is," my subconscious said, voice clear and sharp. "You coward."

I stopped and turned, staring at him.

"If you go to your death rather than do everything you might to prevent what is happening, you are merely committing suicide and trying to make yourself feel better about it. That is the act of a coward. It is beneath contempt."

I went through the logic of his argument and didn't make any headway against it—of course. While my double might look like another person, he wasn't. He was me.

"If I open this door now," I said slowly. "I might not be able to close it again."

"Or you might," my double said. "I have no intention of allowing it any control. So you will be the one who determines it."

"What if I can't contain it again once it’s is freed?"

"Why shouldn't you be able to? It's your mind. Your will. Your choice. You still believe in free will, do you not?"

"It's dangerous," I said.

"Of course it is. And now you must choose. Will you face that danger? Or will you run from it, and so condemn those who need your strength to their deaths?"

I stared at him for a minute. Then I looked at The Shadowman. It waited, its eyes steady, its expression calm.

"Can you do it?" I asked it bluntly.
"Of course," It answered, its manner one of subservience without a trace of resentment. "I would be pleased to offer you whatever assistance you permit."

It looked humble. It looked cooperative. But I knew better. This mere shadow was a vital and powerful force. It might look humble and cooperative, but if that was its true nature it wouldn’t be this shadow creature to being with. I didn't think it was harboring murderous impulses or anything—my instincts told me that it was genuinely pleased to help me.

After all, that was the first step. And it had patience. It could afford to wait.

Dangerous indeed. The Shadowman represented nothing less than the intrinsic allure of power itself. I had never sought to become a warlock. Hell, a lot of the time I thought about how nice things might be if I hadn't been one. The power had been a birthright, and if it had grown since then, it had done so by the necessity of survival. But I'd tasted a darker side to the possession of power—the searing satisfaction of seeing an enemy fall to my strength. The lust to test myself against another, to challenge them and see who was the strongest. The mindless hunger for more that, if once indulged, might never be slaked.

One of the coldest, most evil souls I have ever encountered once told me that the reason I fought so hard to do what seemed right was that I was terrified to look within me and see the desire to cease the fight and do as I would, free of conscience or remorse.

And now I could see that he had been right.

I looked at the shadow, patiently waiting, and was terrified.

But there were innocent lives at stake: men and women and children who needed protection.

If I didn't give it to them, who would?

I took a deep breath, reached into my pocket, and found a silver key there. I threw it to my double.

He caught it and rose. Then he unlocked The Shadowmans shackles.

[This conversation takes place on our way back to Alvirad from the ruins]

Bishop: Okay so let’s get something straight, you don't go off script with me, alterna-Bishop and I have some understanding on this, but I don't trust you as far as I can throw you

Bishop: so you if ever expect me to do anything with you besides put my fingers in my ears and pretend you don't exist you better spill it, what do you know about Jurin and this mark that I don't

Shadowman: How shortsighted you are. I know the same things you know! The only difference is I listened.

Bishop: I conjure up a mental image of me glowering

Nik: (Hah)

Bishop: you blasted him before he showed any sign of a mark, none that I saw

Shadowman: Of course I did. How else do you get the mark to manifest? Ask house Lyrander how they do it. They scare the frak out of their members with tests and trials. I actually saved that little runt some time. I just blasted him, and what do you know . . . it worked!

Shadowman: Can you imagine how pissed Gawk is going to be when he finds out the child's already manifested?

Bishop: so what? You just guessed he had it and tried to test out your theory?

Shadowman: Well feces, it was one of those brats. And I was running out of time. So I figured I could narrow down my search.

Shadowman: OUR search.

Bishop: I'm not looking for kids with marks

Shadowman: Are you sure you're not?

Bishop: Not unless I've really forgotten my datebook, no

Shadowman: I still think you're missing the big picture here, brother.

Shadowman: And that picture is

Shadowman: That when I make a deal with someone, you make the deal with them as well. Whether you like it or not. I have to be toted around in your body, you have to be toted around in mine.

Shadowman: When I tell Gawk that I will help find the child and lead us to Alvirad, it’s because I’m working in OUR best interest

Shadowman: You treat me like I’m the evil one here . . . .

Bishop: ...

Bishop: Who in the hell are you?

Shadowman: I am you.

Bishop: shadowman is a name I used, but that's not your real name is it?

Shadowman: What in a name?

Shadowman: You can call me whatever you wish, I am still apart of you as you are a part of me.

Shadowman: At least for now.

Bishop: If you've got this buddy buddy relationship with Gawk, then why do you even need me?

Shadowman: Do you think that if I was really in league with Gawk that we would really be standing here discussing this? Noooo, we'd be dead. Both of us. We have a part to play in this yet. But we cannot sit idly by. I took the initiative and I betrayed Gawk. It is only because of me that he now has no clue as to where the child is. Once that mark manifested he dropped from their radar.

Bishop: No one broke into my home, got past my wards and delivered me that note did they?

Shadowman: If they did we both would have caught them.

Shadowman: I've put us in this position for a reason. You are involved, we are involved.

Shadowman: We are going to make the pages of history, aren't you the least bit excited about that?

Bishop: and you didn't think it would help if I actually knew what was going on right?

Bishop: pages of history? Is that what you think I want?

Shadowman: Do you always inform me when you take a dump?

Shadowman: Why wouldn't you want to be great?

Shadowman: Everyone wants to be great.

Bishop: I don't want to live in a world where the strong rule and the weak cower. I'd rather make a place where things are a little quieter. Where trolls stay the hell under their bridges and where hags don't come swooping out to snatch children from their cradles. Where vampires respect the limits, and where the faeries mind their p's and q's.

Shadowman: Wishful dreams, that’s all it is. The sooner you come to realize this world and what it truly is, the sooner you will be able to rest at night . . . . without me taking control.

Bishop: There is the world that should be and the world that is. We live in one and must create the other.

Shadowman: After all that you've discovered you are going to tell me that you can just walk away? You would leave Jurin to the fate of the houses? Allow the team to stumble blindly through the mysteries. Allow the darkness of the world to just take over? Just because you disagree with the way i've approached something?

Shadowman: Somehow I think you are stronger than that.

Bishop: I'm not going to allow you to go all puppet master with my body just because you think your idea is better. And no, I think giving Jurin to the houses is a terrible idea, they'll place him in some gilded cage and he'll be nothing more than a slave

Shadowman: (He seems suprised by you sudden, take charge attitude, and takes a step back away from you in defense.)
Then what do you plan to do?

Bishop: I haven't thought that far ahead yet, maybe talk to this joseph boorkin guy. We also need to find out if there is a prophecy regarding this, it might give me a clue as to how this is going to play out

Shadowman: It seems you have things all figured out, perhaps I underestimated you. (He drops to one knee and holds his hand offering something out to you. In is palm is the key.) You are master, for now.

Bishop: Well as my first kingly duty I want you to come up with a name for yourself, the shadowman is too long with a creep factor to high for my liking

Shadowman: I doubt you will like what I refer to myself as . . . .

Bishop: try me

Bishop: You want to play ball then we need to be less formal

Shadowman: Gone, Mr. Gone. And do me a favor, tell your buddy Germo to give me back to you. (He begins to fade into the darkness.)

Bishop: hmmmm

A Race

Post by Nikroesis »

As you make your way back through the thoroughfare riding Galeon the crowd mostly parts for a beast larger than them. You're not really paying attention at the time, looking around at all the shops and people, when Gaelon neighs slightly and stops with a jerk. You look forward and Gaelon has bumped into anothe rider. A halfling astride a massive Fastieth, about the same size as Galeon, maybe even bigger, stares back at you with a blank stare. "Aye, watch where you're riding, Vala-tard!" He appears to be of typical dress for the warriors of the Talenta Plains. His mount however is the largest dinosaur that you have seen as yet.

Louveria:*stare at him with a steel gaze* "You are quite far from the plains"

Sipik: “And you are far from the trees, monkey. And what is that smelly beast you are propped upon?”

Louveria: "A majestic beast, heartier and stronger than your dinosaur. Why are you out here halfling?"

Sipik: “Heartier and stronger? The better question is why you have not lead your mule out the a green pasture and put it out of its misery?” He scoffs and pats his reptilian steed.”Why I bet that thing can't even run a mile before collapsing.”

Louveria: "To insult a valenar's mount is to insult its rider, I suggest you turn around"

Sipik: “Hurmph, I've heard of the famous Valenar Steeds, this animal doesn't look like it could be much of a threat in battle. Im curious to know what it can actually do. What say you? This road leads through the thoroughfare, makes a sharp turn, out the bazzar, and leads across the river (not over the bridge) and mark the entrance gate as the end. You up for a race?”

Louveria: "I shall see you at the end"

He grabs the reigns and turns his Fastieth around to face the same direction as you.
So heres how it works . . . . .
This race will challenge both the rider AND its mount, speed will be just one of the winning factors.
So as the two of you kick off your mounts, speeds is the first of the 7 challenges, and you take the lead quickly. But the next challenge is dodging the civilians through the Bazzaar.
An attack is made against both mounts with the same bonus, I roll an attack against yours, you roll an attack agains mine. This will simulate dodging people, carts, and stands. Your attack bonus is d20+3, as is mine as well.

Harry Truong: 16

Nik: 9

So the Halfling's mount runs into a cart as you and Gaelon dodge to the side. You have gained another 30ft on top of the 20ft you gain over his mount giving you a 50ft lead.

Louveria: * races ahead and deftly dodges the crowd and market carts*

The third challenge is a sharp turn around a corner through an alley way. This requires a ride check.

Harry Truong: #%#, 14

Nik: 15

Louveria: "Faster Ghaelon, show us the meaning of haste"

Harry Truong: Action Point, 16

Both passed the DC 12 and turn the corner down the dark alleyway.

Sipik: "Your mule maybe fast but how does it hold up in combat?"

As you both exit the alleyway a large amount of garbage piled up in the end of the alley way that needs to be hurdled. Handle Animal check DC 15

Nik: 22

Harry Truong: 5

He gains 30ft back as he leaps over the mess and you power through it. Putting him 20ft behind you.

Louveria: "You will see why we are the greatest riders in all of Khorvaire"

A parade suddenly appears down the street running across your path. Reflex 15 to stop in time and turn your mount to move around the procession.

Harry Truong: 23

Both made it (17) and halt your mounts before running into the partygoes. Instead of using the bridge to cross the small river that runs through the town, the two of you wade into the river to cross it, showing your mount's strength. Strength check DC 12

Nik: 19

Harry Truong: 10

You don't make it dropping you only 10 on this challenge, and that puts him at 10ft behind you.

As both mounts jump the bank of the river to race that last of the distance to the finish, you out pace him by another 20ft, winning by a 30ft stretch. You both slow your mounts to a halt and he catches up to you.

Sipik: "Thats quite a beast you have there. Worthy of any Talenta Rider I have ever met. I bow to both of yours skills." He bows his head slightly and his Fastieth leans forward and drops his head to the ground in a sort of trained ritualisitc bow.

Louveria: "You were quite fast yourself, your mount's size is quite misleading."

Sipik: "She is the largest of her breed I have ever seen. She is quite a remarkable companion, we have been through much together. I suspect the same must be true for your connection with with . . . what did you say his name was?”

Louveria: "Ghaelon"

Louveria: "Few warriors as capable as you I have seen around here."

Sipik: "I thank ye, but I must be off. I was on my way to pick up a new custom saddle from a mastersmith. I recomend him to you. Hand crafts all the best riding gear I have ever seen this side of Khorvaire. His name is Tantar, you should check out his shop. You will not be dissappointed."

He turns his mount back through the street, nods at you and gives a way.

Louveria: "I will heed your recommendation."

Flirting?

Post by Nikroesis »

Louveria: *After her lengthy race, she rides Ghaelon slowly back to the magic shop that Karl had mentioned earlier, curious to inspect the shop, dismounts and goes in"

The shop is modest sized, and packed brimming with all kinds of active items, clocks, gears, and gizmos.

Louveria: "I would like to purchase this monocle, perhaps we can come to a price that suits both of us. Or perhaps I can aid you in some manner."

Nik: Diplomacy?

Harry Truong: 16

Tessa leans forward over the counter.

Tessa: "Well aren't you a cute one. Maybe I can offer up more of my services than just a monocle?"

You've got her attention but she seems to be more intrigued by the exotic female elf standing before her than making a sale.

Louveria: *turns her head* "What did you have in mind"

She lays a hand over yours and her voice beomces playful.

Tessa: "Oh I don't know, a little bubbles, maybe some wine . . . "

Louveria: "Why would you need bubbles?"

Tessa: "Oh I don't know . . . " She runs her finger along the counter. ". . . for softening the skin?"

Louveria: "My skin does not need softening, I'm an elf."

She cocks her head to the side confused for a moment. Deciding that you must be playing hard to get she giggles.

Tessa: "Ahw you are too much" She reaches under the counter and brings out the monocle box and opens it up for you.

Harry Truong: *Her charms are completely lost on Louveria. She finds her peculiar, but pleasant.*

She removes the gold monocle from its felt casing and dangles it infront of Louveria.

Tessa: "So what do you say darlin? A date for your monocle?"

Louveria: "Date?" *Quite confused*

Louveria: "You would like me to accompany you to protect you against something? I admit there are some dangers in this area."

She gigles at you again.

Tessa: “No silly, you know, wine, moon light, a little romance. I'd say thats a cheap price for this gold monocle."

Harry Truong: What does Tessa look like?

Nik: Shes got alot of grease, dirt, and sweat on her. Her leather smock is covered in tools and various equipment. Her goggles are pulled up over her head holding her hair back much as a hair crown would. She has a very petite form, coupled with her short height and her smooth black hair. She has quite an attaractive face and slender form for someone in her profession.

Louveria: *What do you think Cid?*

Cidolfus: O.o

Louveria: "What danger is involved in this?"

Tessa: "As much as you want." She winks at you.

Louveria: "There are many legends of the Valenar, great deeds that are sung. The storytellers say of deeds that involve endurance, willpower, dexterity and great strength. They say that to go into the climax of the situation only then allows you to appreciate life. For me to take on something as this, would your task involve the qualities I've stated?"

Tessa: She gasps. "Oh my, I should think you would need all your stamina to reach that climax."

Louveria: "I'm intrigued into what you think of as climax. I will accompany you."

She tosses you the monocle and squeals giddily.

Louveria: "Should I wear this clothing? Or is something else more appropriate?"

Tessa: "You can wear whatever you want darling. The less the better."

Louveria: "I'm afraid this is my only clothing."

Tessa grabs your hand and places two gold coins in it.

Tessa: “Buy your self something pretty for me tonight.”

Louveria: “Where shall I meet you?"

Tessa: "Town square, at dusk. I'll see you then cutie."

She pats your hand and begins to walk away to attend to her waiting customers. She looks back and winks at you.

Louveria: "Dusk, ok"

Louveria: *Slightly confused about what will be going on, but it sounds intriguing. Heads out to find a tailor*

"Jurin I've met someone today and it was a harsh reminder that I cannot put this off anymore" Bishop kneels down bringing himself eye level with Jurin.

"Jurin you've been through stuff no one should have to experience and I really wish I could tell you that the worst is behind you, but it's not. It's most likely just begun.

Your mark is very special and many people are going to try and use you for it or are going to try to tell you what it means and what it says about you."

Bishop removes his leather duster and sets it on the ground next to him, revealing a lead plate covering his right shoulder and back. He carefully removes the lead plate, resting it on his duster, a mass of angry red and black lines jutting out at harsh jagged angles sprawls across his right shoulder and back. The skin around it red and irritated. An abberant dragonmark.

"I've never shown anyone this before, but I think it's important that you know you don't have go through this alone. They call this an abberant mark, they say it's impure, some even call it evil. Do you know what it really is though? To me, it's a reminder that my actions have consequences. That the choices I make don't just affect me, but affect the lives of everyone around me. And yours Jurin, no matter what anyone tells you, means what you want it to mean. It's your mark, you own it, it doesn't own you."

Bishop rises, carefully placing the lead plate backing onto his shoulder and shrugs into his leather duster.

"The plan going forward is to find Joseph Boorkin, a man who knows more about Dragonmarks than anyone else and find out what he knows about your mark, it's said he's even been able to remove them on people permanently."

Bishop places a hand on Jurins shoulder.
