Intro Cutscene

It's a room, rough, like rocks for walls
Almost dark, just a fireplace filling it with reddish light
There is a beautiful woman in a luxurious bed
She is naked, covering with a rough sheet
A male voice is heard from off camera
- I love painting you with this light, my love
The woman stares at the flames
The flames seems to flicker inside her eyes
The woman speaks
- My mother told me I need to make an offering... a burnt offering
- So she will remove my curse from my flesh
The male voice answer
- Curse? But you are beautiful! I love you just the way you are!
She doesn't seem to pay attention to him
- She asked me to make this offering, and I will... will you help me?
The man stops drawing
- Of course my love, anything you need
The woman look at him
- I need you to burn Sandpoint to the ground

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our heroes made the last leg of their journey, from Foxglove river to Sandpoint, getting to know the locales near the town. They meet Ruperta of Hentzau again, now calling herself "Amber" while traveling with a rich man and his hound, Aldern Foxglove. The heroes didn't blow up her cover, but didn't let her do ANY mischief, including robbing Aldern.

Arriving at Sandpoint they where invited to "The Rusty Dragon", a nice inn owned by Ameiko Kaijitsu and attended by a talkative halfling, Bethana Corwin. Some patrons try to muscle Grummsh out, as half-orc, but are intimidated away by Kealm. As heroes and adventurers, Ameiko offers them a night free at the inn, and a free meal. All the while a small crowd gathers outside the inn.

Just then a dozen humans and halfling arrive escorting Titus Scarnetti, leader of the Scarnetti Family, looking for his sister.

Don't mind the old man behind the curtain

I will use this post to talk about my choices as DM. I hope it will help me to get better as GM, and I hope it can help you understand some of the decisions I do, and give you ideas how to use them with your characters.
Well, first time I use the "cutscene" session intro. Personally i love that way of starting the sessions, as helps the players to get "in the mood", and allows me to show them things the characters can't know, but I feel help the game to be better.

As for the Player knowledge vs. Character knowledge... well, if I don't want the players to know something, I don't show it. For example, in this first cutscene I don't tell who the people talking is.

This was a really long exposition session. I wanted to include an encounter, but couldn't make a good one. The Theodosia one was resolved (very) peacefully, and the Inn one very fast (Kealm really intimidated the Shoantis).

In this session I went for flavor. Describe the sights and sounds of Sandpoint and the surroundings. Introduce some NPC's.

And maybe it was too slow for a session. I could have written all and ask the players to read it before the session, and jump into the action. But that presents two problems:

- What if they don't read it? I think not everybody is reading the forum.
- They can interact with the scenes. Not that I think they interact much, anyway.

Ok, experiment time. I will write the scenes of the rest of the Sandpoint NPC's, and ask them all to read it BEFORE next session. The do a quick "Meet and Greet" when they can ask questions to those NPC's. And we jump right into the action.

Hope that works better.
Saludos

Feedback

Post by Corsario »

Please, all the feedback or opinions of this session put in as replies in this threads.

If any of you even does a character "diary" or something like that, I promise to give some kind of reward "in-game" (I have to motivate it somehow, right?).

You can also give private feedback by mail ([email protected]) or skype (corsario_mexico).
