Bugs on Screenshot and Opening launcher.exe

Post by SetArk »

So, i've been trying to use 1.40 version.
I'm using Java 8 x64, on Windows 10. Just reinstalled it, cleaned everything, and redownloaded MapTools.

For some reason, still the .exe says that "Unable to access jarfile maptool-*.jar".
I know, i can use the maptool-1.4.0.0.jar to open, and throught there i've created an map, that i wanted to export.
And for my surprise, when i try to export it, using the Screenshot tool, i recieve the message
screenCapture() caught:
java.lang.NullPointerException.

So, i searched a little on the forums, but didn't saw informations off this occurring on 1.40 version.
With that, i opened this thread =z

Sorry for grammar problems, english isn't my home language >_>

Update:
The current View screenshot works, but the Entire Map, which is the one i'm needing, gives the bug =z
Anyone knows what the hell could be happening?

"Unable to access jarfile maptool-*.jar"
Did you unzip the MapTool download file? If it's still in the zip folder then files inside can be run, but the other files are inaccessible.

Unziped, not only that, i've put it on my D: Drive with all the security rights for the folder =z
Well, better, "Unrared", used Winrar.
Maybe i should use 7zip to extract?

Try installing it in to your My Docs or even the download folder of my docs (in a folder, of course). Windows doesn't like you installing in to the root directories. Even though you say you have the permissions set up, you may have missed something. I don't think the zip extractor matters. I usually use WinRar myself or just the Windows default extractor.

I'm not sure why that looks that way... not sure how you can have 3.628M of Max mem available unless that period is supposed to be a comma.

Create a custom launch.bat file in your MT directory with the following text:

Code: Select all

set STACK=4M
set MAXMEM=2048M
set JAVA=javaw
set VERS=1.4.0.0

start "MapTool" %JAVA% -Xmx%MAXMEM% -Xss%STACK% -jar maptool-%VERS%.jar run
Then run maptool using it and try to export the Entire Map.

I just exported a 92 meg map file without any problems.

countries like where I come from have the , and . used in opposite of what you are used to e.g.: 10.000,- is how you write 10k here. This can give huge Fubars if you import e.g. an excel dump from an anglosakson country to a germanic country. Hence you need to derive the country of origin of SetArk to know for sure

Yeah... but I didn't think MT would display the info that way... unless they entered it into their launch file that way (i.e. are they launching MT with something like a MaxMem of 3.750 thinking it's equivalent to 3750.)

Mt might not do that, but java does!

So, could, there be some residual Registry entries from old installations?
Could it be something with that?

Edit:
Still =z

Edit2:

Sooooooo.
I just discovered a way to use Entire Map. I've to create an Black Map, and draw/place stuff, setted up like this : Type : Entire Map / Layers : As Selected / View:GM
Probably, the problem were that i was using the standard grass background.

Interesting... I suppose if you were using an infinitely tiled map it would be trying to save an infinite map. Sounds like a bug/issue that should be attended to though.

The test I did exported a very large map, but I was using it on a black background.

Nice catch.

Are you using the launcher-1.4.0.0.jar or the old .exe file from previous builds?
