Bulkhead hatches

Post by Steel Rat »

Inspired by a thread on the Dundjinni forums, I decided to model a bulkhead hatch of my own. Keep in mind that I'm VERY new to modeling things from scratch, 99.99999% of the stuff I do is from existing 3D models or Meshes.

So, here is a bulkhead hatch or access hatch I modeled myself. The first version had no means of securing or sealing, but the final version has hatch dogs.

One thing I haven't figured out yet is Texturing, that is applying textures to the model itself. Most of these are using either materials applied in Poser or Vue, or as overlays in Photoshop or Gimp. Procedural materials in Vue and Poser work fine, but I ultimately want to be able to apply texture maps to the entire object.

Anyway. Here is the search term that will get you to the hatches:

And here are some samples:

And the latest version with the hatch dogs.

Nice! Almost makes me want to play a scifi or modern setting game. :)

I can skin map any model you make, just let me know. That way, you can actually apply the texture like you want.

That's great Styles, I may take you up on that. Obviously I want to learn to do it myself. We're talking about UV mapping, right?

Ok, I'm all set. Next time I see you online, we can play around with it a little . . . What program do you use for modeling?

I used Hexagon 2 to make the hatch. I've also got Cinema 4D 9.0 but it's a little more difficul to use, for me.
