java.net.ConnectException

Post by Claybor »

I have been through numerous posts regarding this error and have found no joy in getting it fixed. I have had the same issue in the past and been able to eventually get to the root of it, but not this time. There have been no hardware/software changes or additions to the PC in the recent past so I am at a loss. Debug info to follow;

How would I determine if this was the case? I somewhat doubt it could be as I have auto updates turned off.

We tried b89 as a group recently and it did not work out well so this is most likely not an option, I may take a look at b90, is it fully compatible with java7? I thought that I had read that there were still numerous issues.

It's compatible with j7 and the most stable version in years. The only real issue is with json.sort, but there's a dropin to fix that. There also b91 with those issues fixed, but untested.

hate to say it, but than it smells like its your pc and not maptool (not that that is of any help). Now there is a network FAQ somewhere around here that you should go through

ah here it is: http://www.lmwcs.com/rptools/wiki/Netwo ... 0Solutions

Yeah, it sounds like something is not set up properly... First of all, MT is seeing no Internet Gateway Devices.

Oh well, after quite a number of years of using maptools with no problems it seems as if I have run into something that is not fixable. I guess I will need to look into other options in VTT's, which I am not too thrilled about since I very much like maptools and have a lot of work put into numerous campaigns.

Have you stepped through the Networking FAQ to find the point of failure?
Have you used canyouseeme.org to make sure your Maptool port is open to the internet?
Do you use port forwarding?
It doesn't hurt to check on updates. On Win 7 you can check by going to the control panel>>Programs and features and then clicking on the option to show installed updates. Sort them by date and see if anything has been installed lately.
Would really hate to see you go.

Connection issues can be extremely frustrating. I've had them before and I'm not a networking guru. But just so I'm clear.
I have been through the faq.
At what point does it fail in the faq?
step 1 - can see the server
Is this in the chat window or are you using the website canyouseeme.org to verify visibility from the Internet.
step 2 - can connect from same machine no lan
Do you have a second pc or access to a second pc to see if you can connect on the same LAN?

Perhaps I am looking at the wrong faq because it doesn't fail. The faq goes into stuff about the lan which has no bearing for me and then a bunch of info but no questions. Can you link it?

Both successful on seeing the server.

I do not have access a 2nd PC.

Try this. It has to fail otherwise people can connect.
