Server not working

Post by Warlord2020 »

Hello MapTool Community, I am trying to find the correct forum, but this is all I can access. I have been using MapTool for over 20 years and now I can't get a server to work properly. I need help, LOL in this and many other things lol.

Dell Optiplex 7010 / Intel Core i5 3570 3.4ghz / Win 10 Pro / Jave 8 update 241 / MapTool 1.5.14 and 1.4 / MapTool tries to use 10.0.0.91 as the local address / the following is from ipconfig--

I have tried to port forward - using Xfinity - the port is open on canyouseeme.org but my players either get timed out connecting or booted after about 5 -10 minutes after login in. I have used the default port as well as a different port above the restricted numbers, specifically 44414.
I have disabled Windows Defender and use Norton - as I have for 20 years without incident
I have tried UPnP as well to no success, without port forwarding enabled
I have just started to explore Hamachi - but initial test could not get a player connected
I have ZERO networking skill and experience - only from troubleshooting on my own. My friend that was tech support is no longer available.

I don't want to screen share on Discord anymore, since you can't hide anything that way. I would like to get this up and running by the 23rd, our next session. I am willing to have one of you remote in if that is easier. I trust MapTool. I am available at any time in any timezone to get this fixed. email - [email protected] call 463-202-8226 EDT
Thanks.

That the port shows as open and they can at least sometimes connect means the port forwarding is good.

Did this problem just show up recently? Anything change in your network environment? Did you switch from having your computer wired via Ethernet to using WiFi? New computers devices on the network?

When you setup your port forward and use an ip, is that ip a reserved address for your computer? If you go to Connected Devices in your Comcast router it will show the Online devices. Under DHCP/Reserved IP it should say Reserved IP. You can click the Edit button on that line to set if not. Make sure the IP shown there is the one for the Port Forwarding. You'll need to restart your computer after doing this to make sure you connect properly.

Yes Phergus, The machine in reference is a new machine for this. Got it in Jan 2019. Have had this issue since about Jan of this year. No hardware changes, went from MT 1.4 to 1.5 to try and fix it. Connecting using ethernet cable.

Yes, aliasmask, the port 10.0.0.91 is reserved for my PC

You guys sound better at this than me. Either of you want to test a server or remote in and see if you can find the setting that is glitched?
