Music for RP Sessions

Post by Aestatem »

I guess first of all I should say hi! to everyone as I'm new to the forums. You could say I was inspired by all the great free utilities that RPTools has to offer, and felt like it'd be nice to contribute. I don't know about everyone else, but I really enjoy listening to music during tabletop sessions to enhance the mood or make combat more exciting. That being said, I've taken it upon myself to create some music that could be played during gaming sessions. So far, it's pretty traditional, and I've got Dungeons and Dragons in mind when writing it. I figured I would attach the link to a few (unfinished) samples of stuff I've been working on to see if anyone's interested (apparently I can't attach mp3s to posts), and would of course be flattered if anyone felt that they'd like to hear more to use during their sessions. If not, that's cool too. Also, this might be a good place to discuss what artists you like to listen to while you play or give others suggestions.

I think this will work?...

Thanks so much for your response, I was beginning to think this post would just fade into the aether. Anyway I like your piece, it's different, and I could see it working in an overland/travel sort of situation. What software do you use? Do you have anything else? I'd love to hear if anyone else has anything. I'll be getting back to this when I have time, maybe extending the pieces that are already on there.

I'll put one band out there that I love to listen to while playing D&D: Russian Circles
Again, everyone let us know what your about.

Very useful thread! I've had/I'm still having trouble finding quality clips to stream but here's what I've collected.

Ambient Clips
Woodland Campsite - https://ia803004.us.archive.org/17/item ... mpsite.mp3
Dinotopia (Nature ambience) - https://ia802706.us.archive.org/0/items ... otopia.mp3
Medieval Town - https://ia600906.us.archive.org/25/item ... l_town.mp3
Church Town- https://ia801900.us.archive.org/25/item ... hejnal.mp3
Ocean Ambience- https://ia800408.us.archive.org/31/item ... Sounds.mp3
Rain Ambience - https://ia803109.us.archive.org/12/item ... t%2001.mp3
Bird Chirping - https://ia800404.us.archive.org/31/item ... 0Sound.mp3

Music Clips
Medieval Feast Music - https://ia803001.us.archive.org/19/item ... 0Feast.mp3
Relaxing Snowscape Music - https://ia800202.us.archive.org/18/item ... part_1.mp3
Dungeon Music - https://ia803205.us.archive.org/35/item ... artref.mp3

Below are compiliations of various songs and sound effects. On the right, you can click VBR MP3 to get a link directly to the file. I'm hoping - by using archive.org - these clips will still be online years down the road.

Various Sound effects - https://archive.org/details/various-sound-effects/
Auldhame Sound Effects - https://archive.org/details/auldhame-general-sounds/
Folksoundomy: Sound Effects and Recorded Ambience - https://archive.org/details/folksoundomy_effects
Witch Dungeon Music- https://archive.org/details/welcome-to- ... mpilation/
Fantasy & Medieval Music (dungeon synth, darkwave, dark ambient, etc.) Part. 3) - https://archive.org/details/261MortiisK ... emastered/

Anyway, that's all I've got for now. I'm still on the look out for a good songs, ambient tracks or sound effects though. Right now, I really need some sort of torch sound effect! If anyone out there has some worthwhile links, please share them!
